Cocktail 'Cosmopolitan', recipe from Cheryl Cook and not only

An elegant pink drink in a martini glass, known as Cosmopolitan cocktail, was popularized in the 1990s by Carrie Bradshaw and her friends, the heroines of the American television series Sex and the City. But up to this point it has already been approved by Madonna and other representatives of American show business, in the famous area of South Beach, Miami. You can even say that in America he became extremely popular, after Madonna and the cocktail were seen in the photographs from the Grammy ceremony.

In the 1960s, the drink was not called the cocktail "Cosmopolitan." Its recipe was based on canned cranberry juice "Ocean Spray Cranberry Jus" and was called "Harpoon".

Today's popularity of the Cosmopolitan cocktail, or simply Cosmo, dates back to the mid-1980s. How to cook "Cosmopolitan", which would have liked the women, came up with Cheryl Cook of Miami, nicknamed Queen Martini South Beach. She mixed vodka "Absolute Citron", lime rose juice, trill-sec (liqueur with orange flavor), and to give the drink a characteristic pink shade added a little cranberry juice. "Absolute Citron" was considered a new product and was not sold anywhere in America officially until 1988. But in Miami it was just conducted its test sales.

  • Put the ice in the shaker;
  • Put all the ingredients in the shaker and shake it well;
  • Pour the drink into a cooled martini glass;

To decorate a cocktail, as a rule, a thin curly orange peel or a wedge of lemon is most often used.

Dale DiGroff, the King of the Cocktail, having tasted Cosmo in Fog City Dine, a very popular tourist destination in San Francisco, offered his classic cocktail version at the famous restaurant and nightclub of New York's Rainbow Room in the late 1980s , With fresh lime juice and a flambéed orange peel.

There are many options for making the most of the famous cocktails, and the Cosmopolitan cocktail is no exception. The recipe varies depending on the bar and on the bartender's preferences. Many allow themselves great liberties with the original recipe and come up with all the new variations.

Use the usual vodka instead of citrus. "Blue Cosmopolitan" contains white cranberry juice mixed with "Curacao", a blue liqueur, instead of an orange liqueur. In the Italian interpretation in a cocktail instead of lime juice is used limoncello (lemon liqueur).

In "Cosmopolitan Barbados" rum replaces vodka.

There is also the so-called "Morning Cosmopolitan" with the use of coffee vodka, which is called "peak-mi-up" or a means to cheer up.

Or here is a cocktail "Cosmopolitan", a recipe with pomegranate juice.

Ingredients:

  • 60 ml of vodka;
  • 60 ml of orange liqueur;
  • 60 ml of pomegranate juice, preferably freshly squeezed;
  • 30 ml of lemon juice.

Preparation:

  • If you wish, you can use Absolut Citron vodka and freshly squeezed lemon juice, and to make it sweet add sugar;
  • Mix orange liqueur, vodka and pomegranate juice in a shaker with ice. Shake the shaker with vigorous movements;
  • Pour the drink into a chilled cocktail glass.

An elegant cocktail with a Sheridan liqueur can also be called a female cocktail to a certain extent, but it is so magnificent that men can not resist the temptation to try it.

Liqueur Sheridan is produced in Dublin by the company "Thomas Sheridan and Sons".

First of all, the bottle with a liqueur, consisting of two sections, each with its own neck, captivates. In one part there is a coffee liqueur with taste of whiskey, and the other part of the bottle is filled with liqueur from white milk chocolate. When the liqueur is poured into a glass, the "white liquor" is on top of the "black liquor", which in appearance looks like Irish coffee.

A few pieces of ice in the glass, of course, will not interfere.
