Car IZ "Combi"

"Moskvich" IZH "Combi" with an unusual body for that time "liftback" appeared in 1973. In the same year, his space research was completed by Lunokhod-2, and the crew of Soyuz-19 began joint trainings with American colleagues. But even these bright events of that time did not overshadow the appearance of the new Izhevsk Automobile Plant. Especially since IZH "Combi" was a "design response" to the French, who introduced the new Renault-16, which received the title "European car of the year."

For that time, the appearance of the new "Moskvich" was atypical among the former Soviet cars. IZ "Combi" combined an unusual backdrop, rectangular headlights with chrome niches, an original radiator lining and combined in one block turn signals and front lights. Thanks to all this, the new model was similar to a foreign car. And the most surprising thing is that the Soviet ministry decided to put this development on the conveyor belt, although it is known how at that time they treated everything foreign.

Serial production IZH "Combi" began in 1973, more than 500 cars were produced, and further the output volume only increased. What attracted motorists in this model? Firstly, it is a glazed fifth door that rises and is held by a telescopic servomechanism and is located at an angle of 45 °. This slope of the door gave the car not only a unique look, but also increased the aerodynamics of the body.

In addition, the space behind the rear axle was practically arranged. At the very bottom, the gas tank was placed, and above it a "technical floor" was arranged, where a set of tools and spare parts fit. And the lid of this compartment is the floor of the main luggage compartment, which is designed for a cargo of 50 kg. If you fold the rear seat, you get an even and long cargo area, which can withstand 200 kg. The rigidity of the body in the IZ "Combi" is increased with the help of additional spars, and additional leaf springs strengthened the rear suspension.

Owners of this "Moskvich" know that this is not a machine - it's a tank. This comparison is obtained due to thick steel of excellent quality, combined with an impressive mass of the car (1100 kg without loading). And someone who knows this feature IZH "Combi", trying to keep on the road with him a distance, since with a small collision on the "Muscovite" and scratches may not remain, but the new foreign car will suffer.

Today, this car is successfully used for work, as well as for trips to hunting and fishing, as it has different carrying capacity and capacity. In addition, even at busy times, it is not afraid of potholes on country roads, and legends go about its patency.

But along with all the advantages, of course, there are some disadvantages. First of all, this is a big fuel consumption (10 liters per 100 km), it's not for nothing that the Soviet "Mustang" is named IZH "Combi". Tuning in this matter can correct the situation. It is enough to replace the Muscovite carburetor with Zhigulevsky from the fifth model, and the consumption will be reduced to 8 liters. Due to the four-speed gearbox, the Combi is classified as slow-moving, but this is a controversial statement, the car speeds up to 150 km / h, and even racing models are made of it.

So if you decide to buy a used car for some purpose, then it's hard to find this model. This is an excellent assistant in cargo transportation, and when traveling on difficult-to-trail dirt roads. And keep in mind that IZH "Combi" excellently suits tuning and if desired, you can make it simply "candy".
