Business style of speech: examples of texts and meaning

In our life we play various social roles. Often both our behavior and speech change depending on the situation in which we are.

Business style of speech, examples of which are found in the life of every person, even not involved in the office sphere, is present everywhere.

Types of speech styles

The main styles of speech, allocated in linguistics at the moment:

  • colloquial;

  • art;

  • Official-business (often referred to simply as "business");

  • scientific;

  • Journalistic.

In this article, we will analyze the business style of speech, examples of which are often found. What are its features and purposes?

Business style of speech

Examples of texts have characteristic features. To distinguish business style from another will be quite easy if you know its features.

The main function of business speech is to inform, that is, the presentation of reliable information relative to a particular issue.

This is a fairly concise style. It is characterized by a compact presentation. There are no metaphors, it is extremely rare to use phraseological phrases. Sometimes it can be quite difficult to perceive.

Examples of the business style of speech are distinguished by the standardization of the forms of the text.

Very widely used different terminology, names. More widely than in other styles, abbreviations are used. The order of words in sentences is often direct.

Examples of business style of speech do not differ rich emotional color. The use of figurative means and well-established statements is allowed only as an exception.

You can not call this style "characteristic" or "personal." The speech is most often from the first person. Yet the text in this style is inherently satisfied with weak individualization.

When to use

The business style is applied in two main types:

  • Everyday business (used in private, individual business correspondence, documents, as well as in correspondence between various organizations);

  • Official documentary (used in the drafting of official, legislative, diplomatic documents).

The private documents include, for example, an autobiography. This is the least formal document in which the business style of speech is practiced and applied. Examples of such texts can be found in the autobiography of politicians or public figures. However, in these cases, the artistic or journalistic style of speech is more often used. The need for the creation of such a document can arise in any person. For example, with an official request to government bodies. Therefore, the following structure of autobiography should be considered only as a scheme for writing an official document. It should include:

  • document's name;

  • The text of the autobiography itself (the minimum information includes the full name, place and date of birth, information on the education received, brief information about the previous and current work places, about the family);

  • Date (under the text is located on the left);

  • Signature (under the text is located on the right).

How to use

The forms inherent in the style in question are quite diverse, despite their standard. Clichés, familiar phrases, an abundance of complex unions - all this characterizes the official business style in business texts.

Examples of the most common language tools:

  • Different names and names.

  • Chancellarism (above, mentioned, undersigned).

  • Ordinary literary words, which in due course received special meaning (names of posts, officials).
