Growth

The native land of almonds is Asia (Middle and Fore) and the Mediterranean. This culture arose many centuries ago before our era.

Today, the most numerous plantations of almonds are in the areas of the Mediterranean, USA (California), China, Central Asia, Western Tien Shan, Kopetdag, the Caucasus and Crimea. Planting and care

Its bottom is mulched with a mixture consisting of leaf earth, humus and sand. The sapling is planted on the bottom of the pit, it is covered, and the ground is rammed. If necessary, the plant can be tied to a peg, also installed in the pit before grounding. The young plant is carefully poured with a bucket of water.

The first fruiting occurs for 3-5 years. Annually, the almond should be cut and fed with mineral and organic fertilizers. The age of the plant can reach up to 100-130 years, and the maximum yield is at 18-20 years of age.

Almonds are imported to Russia for a long time. In the Crimean Nikitsky Botanical Garden for several decades works have been done on the selection of winter-hardy varieties. Despite the fact that these plants endure severe frosts (up to -25 degrees), early spring flowering with still strong frosts destroys leaves and flowers.
