The future writer was born on December 11, 1918 in the city of Kislovodsk. Despite the fact that his parents came from peasants, they had a good education. True, Solzhenitsyn's mother was widowed before his birth. To feed her son, she became a typist.

In 1938, Alexander Isaevich began his studies at the Rostov University at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. In 1941, he also graduated from the Correspondence Department of IFLI. Solzhenitsyn's biography shows that with the start of the Great Patriotic War, Alexander Isaevich went into the army.

In 1945 A. Solzhenitsyn was arrested by front-line counterintelligence, since in one of his letters NKVD officers found a critical remark against Stalin. As a result, Alexander Isaevich was sentenced to 8 years in prison and to exile to Siberia. He was rehabilitated only in 1957.

Solzhenitsyn's biography tells that in 1974 he was again arrested, accused of treason and deported to the Federal Republic of Germany. Two years later the writer moved to America - here he was engaged in literary creation.

In the 90-ies some emigrants returned to Russia. One of them was A. Solzhenitsyn, whose brief biography indicates that he returned to his homeland only in 1994. The writer continued his social and literary activities until the last day - he died in 2008.

In 1962, Khrushchev allowed to publish the story "One Day of Ivan Denisovich." The work was dedicated to Stalin's camps. Later, such stories as "Matrenin Dvor" and "For the good of the cause" were published.

Five years later the writer sent an open letter to the Congress of the Writers' Union calling for an end to the censorship. As a result, his works were banned. Nevertheless, such novels as "Cancer Corps" and "In the First Circle" were distributed through samizdat and came out even in the West.

In 1970, the former prisoner of the Gulag was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. But in 1973 the KGB confiscated the manuscript of the work The Gulag Archipelago, which described labor camps and prisons scattered throughout the USSR. According to statistics, the greatest reader interest in Solzhenitsyn was in 1988-1993. Then his works were printed in almost one million copies.

Biography Solzhenitsyn notes that the creativity of the writer is characterized by large-scale epic tasks, as well as the demonstration of historical events through the prism of the perception of completely different characters among themselves. He often uses biblical allusions and the symbolism of the composition. At the same time, the author's position is not always expressed clearly, rather, Solzhenitsyn tries to bring about a clash of opposing points of view. In addition, his works differ in documentary. In fact, most of the characters in Solzhenitsyn's works have real prototypes, with which the writer was personally acquainted.
