Hutsiev Marlen Martynovich - a native of Tbilisi, he was born on October 4, 1925. His father, a convinced communist, died in the years of repression, his mother professionally engaged in acting. The young man after school wanted to become a student of the Academy of Arts, but could not stand the competitive selection.

A year before the end of the war, he was taken to work as an assistant to the artist of combined shootings at the capital film studio.

Years of study at a theatrical university

After the war, the maestro decides to enter the VGIK for the director. The road from home to the Russian capital was not close, and when the young man crossed the threshold of the theatrical high school, he was told that the set is already over. However, the members of the examination committee were favorable to him and were allowed to pass exams on an exceptional basis. Such a gift made the fate of Marlen Khutsiev.

Work experience

Years of study swept by unnoticed, and after receiving a diploma, the newly-made director was in the status of unemployed for about two years.

In 1953, fortune smiles at Khutsiev, and he is invited to work as a dubbing assistant to the Central Film Studio of Children's and Youth Films, where the famous "Yeralash" was filmed.

In 1955, the famous director Boris Barnet offers Marlen Martynovich to become his colleague in the shooting of the film "Liang".

In the next three years the maestro worked as a director at the Odessa Film Studio. In the period from 1959 to 1965 he was promoted to the Central Film Studio of Children and Youth Films as an assistant director. After that, he already grows tall before the director of the Mosfilm studio.

Since 1968, Marlen Martynovich has been in charge of the creative association "Ekran" at the central station. In this position he will work for four years.

There was a time when Khutsiev showed himself as an actor. He was involved in the films: "Intervention", "Burn, Burn, My Star", "On the Day of the Holiday".

Notable is his work in the theater "Contemporary", where he created the production of "The Case in Vichy" (Arthur Miller).

The director becomes famous

True fame for Khutsiev came after he directed his first film "Spring on Zarechnaya Street" in 1956.

The plot of the relationship between a simple teacher and a steelmaker had a stunning success with the viewer. In the picture there are no imposed ideals and pomposity, everything is simple and confidential. Three years later another remarkable film by the maestro appeared on the screen - "Two Fedoras". Again, the maestro does not idealize the protagonist, he just wants to show his character in everyday life, where the power of habit prevails and from this the human relations become more open and simple.

In general, for film critics of the 60s Marlen Khutsiev was a colorful figure. In most of his productions, reliability and truthfulness slip, he managed to maximally reveal the characters of the main characters.

Subsequent work of the maestro

In 1966, another Soviet-made film is produced on Soviet television screens, which was directed by Marlen Khutsiev - July Rain. The maestro posed to the audience an age-old question: "What's happening to us"? The main heroine, in whose minds the reappraisal of values takes place, painfully searches for him the answer. She has to think a lot about anew. In modern conditions, the film is as relevant as ever.

In 1969, the director begins to shoot another stirring picture - "There was a month in May." This story about the interlacing of such concepts as memory and oblivion, is a film about the past and the future, about war and peace. His painting Marlen Martynovich paid tribute to those who put everything on the altar of Victory to the last and saved the country.

In 1983, another film, Marlena Khutsieva, appeared - "Afterword." This picture can be compared to a play for two actors, where there is a non-trivial combination of heroes: a father-in-law, aged on a visit, and a middle-aged son-in-law. The latter is trying to establish contact with a relative in the absence of his wife.

In 1991, the philosophical film "Infinity" was filmed. This is a story about the search for the meaning of life, in which the protagonist often refers to memories of the past. In this uneasy film, the director especially filigreedly presented the viewer with the image of Hope, without which life loses all meaning.

What is most important in the movies maestro

What are the films taught by Marlen Khutsiev, whose list includes more than twenty directorial works? Of course, he wants the viewer to think while watching his pictures, because each frame is a multi-faceted chord in which one instrument, without the support of others, can make the composition boring. The main characters of his films are in constant search for the meaning of life, they experience emotional torments and experiences.

The works of Marlen Martynovich many times represented Soviet cinema on foreign venues and were awarded various awards. But most importantly, they deserve the audience's love for the fact that in their subjects the most natural and simple are the lines of relations between people.

Already more than two decades the director gives lessons of skill to students of director's department of VGIK. Today, many of his students work in film and television.

Despite his advanced age, the maestro is busy in his profession. Currently, he continues many years of work on his new film - "Not Black". This is a story about how two geniuses met - Chekhov and Tolstoy. It's not easy to shoot a film, but the maestro, with his inherent slowness, plans to finish it.
