Appliques from felt with your own hands

If you do not like complex kinds of needlework or just a beginner in the field of artistic creativity, you definitely like the appliqué of felt. Make them simple, but these souvenirs look bright and original.

Ideas and options

Appliques from felt are performed as simple objects, for example, a heart with a decor or a flower, or consisting of a large number of elements that make up whole plot compositions.

In this technique, you can do the following:

• magnet;
• brooch;
• pendant;
• Postcard;
• purse;
• Album cover;
• A soft toy;
• A toy-pillow;
• Decorative panel (flat or three-dimensional).

The list of options only by these, of course, is not limited. It all depends on your imagination.

Tools and materials

To make applications of felt, you need the following:

• Thin felt of different shades.
• Feather is thicker for making the base.
• Element Templates.
• Paper or cardboard for patterns (when performing complex objects).
• Pencil, eraser.
• Scissors.
• Glue (it's good to use a thermo gun).
• Threads with a needle, for example, a mulina (usually a contrasting hue to the color of the elements of the composition).

Appliques from felt: patterns

As a rule, simple shapes, often geometric shapes, are used for work , so you can draw patterns using conventional stationery stencils. If you need more complex contours, for example, natural objects, use the printed blanks.

With the help of such outline drawings, you can make different applications of felt. Patterns can consist not only of elements of the shape contour. The following illustration shows a stock for fish. The general outline of the object is formed from several separate parts, and not from one common one, as in the first scheme.

Similarly, you can do with the patterns from the first scheme, dividing the butterfly or heart into halves, and in the lamb to make up the entire figure from the individual parts.

As a stencil pattern, it is easy to use any photorealistic image (the first illustration in the text or the next section). If the pattern is located front, and not sideways, then it is enough to print out the picture in the desired size and circle the contours of all the elements separately through the glass. It's also easy to do right from the screen, attaching the glass from above, so as not to damage the monitor.

Self-application of felt

Consider the technology on the example of making decor for interior decoration. Similarly, any composition will be performed and more simple in the form of a single flower or animal and the decoration of a three-dimensional thing, for example, a pillow or a soft toy. In the last two cases, the base will consist not of one piece, but of sewn and filled with sintepon or other materials of two simple shapes.

To make a magnet in the form of a heart with flowers, as in the following illustration, work like this:

1. Cut one (if you want to make the base flat) or two pieces in the form of a heart. Color choose at your discretion, not necessarily black.
2. Sew the workpiece with a stitch. If you want to make a three-dimensional heart, you need to connect two parts and sew them together with this seam, which in the first case performs only a decorative role. However, to obtain a three-dimensional heart, the parts can be sewn better after the application. Inside (between the two parts) you will stack the sintepon, so if you do it right away, it will be inconvenient to create an application on the front side.
3. Add the remaining parts layer by layer according to the sample. The stitches that fix the elements are clearly visible in the photo. If desired, use beads for decoration, as shown in the picture.

How to make a picture

To perform a decorative panel you need to work like this:

1. In order for you to get beautiful applications of felt elements, take the ready-made patterns. Print your favorite pattern or color illustration (photo below).
2. Cut out all the necessary elements from the paper.
3. Lay out the details on the felt sheets of the appropriate color. Circle the contours, cut out the blanks.
4. Prepare a light blue felt for the base (if you do the same to the presented landscape).
5. Put on the background a blue detail of the sky, a light green earth and a grass silhouette for the foreground. Pin with pins and sweep the parts.
6. Stitch the seam on the front side along the perimeter of the background rectangle.
7. Do one more line along the wavy edge of the blue detail, the arc of the light green element and the carved side of the grass.
8. Similarly, do with the sun and crowns, and then the trunks of trees.
9. Flowers should be sewn by hand, although if you do not have a machine all the seams can be done simply with a thread with a needle, however, it will be much longer. Flowers in the form of circles can be easily made from sequins, fixing them with a bead-middle. Small parts can be attached to the glue.
10. Make a picture in the frame. The easiest way is to glue the work on a cardboard of contrasting color (in this case black).

So, applications of felt are carried out on a simple technology, so they can make even beginners needlewomen. Variants of souvenirs that can be made in the form of vivid appliqués are very many.
