Animals of Bashkortostan listed in the Red Book: description and interesting facts

On the slopes of the Ural Mountains and on the plains of the Ural Mountains stretches a vast territory, where the Republic of Bashkortostan is located. This area is famous for the abundance of rare and unique animals that miraculously coexist in close proximity not only from each other, but also from people. Human intervention in the quiet and measured life of the animal world, to great regret, caused them enormous harm. Many species in this region are now considered rare or are on the verge of extinction. Today it will be about them, about the animals of Bashkortostan: unusual, unique, mysterious and listed in the Red Book.

A little about the region

But before we start talking about the animals of the Republic of Bashkortostan, we should say a few words about the region itself. Note that the climate here is continental. The region has a warm enough summer, followed by a cold winter.

The boundless expanses of the steppes, the mountains protecting from the squally winds and lowering the heaps of thick impenetrable fogs to their footsteps, well-groomed fields, impenetrable forests that are almost untouched, lakes and rivers can all be seen here simply by looking around.

Animals of Bashkortostan

In fact, the neighborhood of the republic inhabits a huge number of animals: birds, fish, amphibians, but it will only talk about rare animals in Bashkortostan. It should be noted that the species of mammals that inhabit the territory of the region are more than 70. Among them: wolves, squirrels, mink, otters, moose, roe deer. They are familiar to many, even if only by name. And there are people about whom few have heard:

  • Eared hedgehog;
  • muskrat;
  • Northern leather;
  • Bat;
  • Night and evening;
  • Bobak;
  • Steppe pika;
  • Maral;
  • Bird burial ground.

The listed list of rare animals of Bashkortostan, which are listed in the Red Book, is far from complete, but even from it it becomes clear that the republic is really rich in unusual living creatures. Next, we will try to talk about each of these animals separately.

Eared hedgehog, muskrat and bobak: description and interesting facts

The eared hedgehog almost does not differ from its fellow humans, however, from the name it becomes clear that it has a certain feature. Yes, these are the big ears of the hero. The prickly creation can be found all over the world, not only in Bashkortostan, but here it is protected and creates comfortable conditions for living. On the territory of the republic there is a huge number of reserves. An interesting fact about hedgehogs is that they have special immunity to the poisons of some snakes and vipers. Although these little animals do not hunt creeping reptiles, they will not give themselves in case of an attack.

Desman has long been listed in the Red Book, because a large number of animals were killed by hunters, chasing after the valuable fur of mammals. The desman is very like a mole, and they belong to the same family. An interesting fact is that the day she eats the amount of food equal to its weight. It is a blind animal, able to swim under water.

Baibak is a huge representative of the protein family on planet Earth, belonging to the genus marmots. His body can reach 60 cm in length, and weight - up to 10 kg. Baibaks are truly unusual animals in Bashkortostan, the photo given in the article is fully confirmed.

Northern leatherskin, bat, night and evening

Next we will talk about unusual bats. For example, a bat is a flying predator, the size of a matchbox is smaller. This is the smallest representative of the squad of bats, and it weighs only 3 grams. Another specimen of the class of chiroptera is a night owl, which feeds on mosquitoes and flies. Vespers also represent a predator more than the rest. The mass of her body is 100 g, and the diet is the same as that of her predecessors - insects.

The northern leatherskin is a small bat that is not afraid of negative temperatures, it can more easily sit tight with a minor minus in its shelter. It is generally believed that bats are predators, however, the leatherskins feed mainly on beetles and night butterflies.

An interesting fact that applies to all the listed animals of Bashkortostan is that the species of bats are very useful to nature: they destroy a huge number of insect pests.

Steppe pika, maral and bird burial ground

Steppe pika is considered the smallest representative of a detachment of rabbits, but this animal does not resemble a hare, rather it resembles a hamster, but belongs to a group of marmots. Pishukhu is sometimes called a digger because of the constant desire to dig burrows. This is of great benefit to the soil.

Maral is a noble deer, which is guarded more than others from poachers. The fact is that the horns of a cloven-hoofed handsome man cost a lot of money, and in pursuit of profit hunters do not spare the animals themselves. Female maral nurtures a cub for 8.5 months, which is a sufficiently long period of pregnancy for mammals.

The burial ground is a huge predatory bird, which for a long time was called the ordinary eagle. Not so long ago, scientists discovered some peculiarity: the love of a winged individual is in close proximity to the funerary mausoleums.

The listed animals of the Red Book of Bashkortostan are a miracle of nature, which should be preserved for future generations.
