Analysis for infertility in men

According to the World Health Organization, currently the incidence of infertility in marriage is about 15%. And this indicator for Russia is an order of magnitude higher than in countries abroad - 17.4%.

Infertility is the cause of many social and psychological problems in the family. And if in time not to do an infertility analysis and begin treatment, then family problems will soon develop into conflicts, anxious states, depression. Often such marriages end in divorce.

If during a whiter than 12 months of regular sexual relations a married couple does not have a planned pregnancy, then most likely one of the spouses (less often both) has insufficient fertility. As the data of medical statistics show, in 50% of cases, the perpetrators of infertility are men. In such conditions, the best way is to check for the causes of reproductive harm.

Modern medicine has enough resources to treat infertility. Therefore, if a problem arises, the best solution will be to consult an andrologist .

At the stage of examination, the necessary tests for infertility are submitted. First of all, the sperm is examined, its activity, ability to fertilize and other parameters are evaluated. Further microbiological, genetic, hormonal, immunological studies, X-ray and ultrasound diagnostics are carried out. If necessary, a testicular biopsy is performed.

Analysis of infertility and other examinations of the patient will help the doctor to identify the following, the most common, causes of male infertility :

  • Varicocele, or dilatation of the venous vessels of the spermatic cord.
  • Urinary tract infections, including venereal diseases.
  • Systemic diseases (cirrhosis of the liver, tuberculosis, chronic diseases, nervous diseases and others).
  • Therapeutic treatment with the use of radiation, hormone and chemotherapy, tranquilizers, drugs.
  • Anabolic steroid.
  • High temperature in the patient in the last 6 months.
  • Surgical operations.
  • Congenital anomalies.
  • Ecology, including the impact of radiation.
  • Alcohol abuse and smoking.

The first stage of the survey is aimed at confirming the infertility caused by the male factor. For this, an analysis of sperm is made , according to which the quality and quantity of spermatozoa, the fertilizing capacity of sperm and other parameters are evaluated.

The results of spermogram analysis may include the following items:

1) The norm. That is, all the parameters are within the permissible range and the sperm of a man is quite fruitful.

2) Azoospermia. There are no spermatozoa in the ejaculate.

3) Changes in one of the parameters (quantity, quality, mobility, morphology and others).

4) Violation of several qualitative parameters of the spermogram simultaneously.

When collecting for the study, it is required to collect all the seminal fluid released during ejaculation in a sterile plastic cup with a wide neck and deliver it to the laboratory within 20 minutes. On the container with sperm, you should specify the exact time of ejaculation. During transportation, the container is best kept in the jacket pocket, where the temperature is close to the body.

The analysis for infertility will be less reliable if you get sperm by interrupted sexual intercourse, oral caresses, using a condom. The foreign substances that enter the sperm can adversely affect the results of the studies.

Before you pass the test for infertility, a man should refrain from ejaculation within a few days. For the reliability of research, the sperm delivery procedure should be repeated four times, with interruptions of 2-3 weeks. If there are any deviations, the procedure should be carried out twice more.

If the examination of spermogram revealed any deviations, the doctor may prescribe additional tests. When infertility in men, the survey is conducted in the following areas:

  • General analysis of the patient's urine;
  • General analysis of the patient's blood;
  • Scraping from the urethra;
  • Diagnosis of scraping DNA;
  • ELISA blood for the determination of hormones;
  • Microscopy of prostatic secretion after massage;
  • Three single spermogram with repetition in 2-3 weeks.
  • Wasserman's reaction;
  • Ultrasonography of urogenital organs;
  • Scrotal thermometry, biopsy and puncture of the epididymis;
  • Other analyzes.

It should be noted that in modern medicine, virtually all forms of infertility in men are curable. In extreme cases, it is possible to resort to artificial insemination. However, do not forget about the prevention of male infertility:

  • Less often use a mobile phone;
  • Avoid overheating of the genitals;
  • Do not abuse alcohol, drugs;
  • Do not wear tight underwear;
  • Do not sit at the computer;
  • Protect yourself from infections, including sex;
  • To be afraid of the heat for colds or flu.
