This means that the same level of irritation can cause completely different sensations in people with a high and low pain threshold. As a result, an elementary prick with a needle for some will seem an imperceptible bite of a mosquito, and for others - an extremely painful and terrible action. That is why various procedures, mostly of a cosmetic nature, require the use of pain medications.

One of them is Emla cream. Instructions for use of this product indicate its excellent freezing qualities, which allows you to get rid of unwanted pain. More details about the cream, its properties, analogs and other nuances will be discussed later.

What is this tool?

"Emla" is a small tube of a homogeneous white cream intended for external use. It is produced in strong aluminum tubes of 5 and 30 g. The container has a plastic lid with thread and is protected by a reliable cardboard box, inside of which is the Emla cream itself, instructions for use and often an occlusive dressing.

What is the purpose of the cream?

According to the instructions, the cream is used as a superficial anesthetic for vaccinations and other injections, for small surgical intervention, for catheterization of blood vessels. It is also used for various cosmetic procedures, for example, during epilation, biorevitalization, peeling, mesotherapy, botulinum, during the performance of permanent make-up and tattoo, contour face plasty.

In addition, Emla cream is prescribed for trophic ulcers of the lower limbs and varicose veins, as well as for analgesia of the mucous membranes of the genital organs before performing various painful manipulations. Some enterprising ladies use this remedy for self-cleaning their face and while getting rid of acne and purulent pimples.

Principle of action of an anesthetic drug

Cream-anesthetic "Emla" prevents the generation of painful impulses along the nerve endings. As a result, a reaction that irritates nerve fibers does not occur. The maximum effect can be achieved if the cream is applied to the intended treatment site and left for one hour. The total duration of the freezing action is no more than half an hour. Especially it is necessary to observe great care, choosing cheap analogues of "Emla". More about them we'll talk later.

What is an anesthetic?

The cream contains such active substances as lidocaine and prilocaine. As auxiliary components, as a rule, the following are used:

  • Macrogol glyceryl hydroxy stearate;
  • purified water;
  • Carbomer or carboxypolymethylene;
  • sodium hydroxide.

All these substances are included in Emla cream. Its composition, as you can see, does not contain anything dangerous and harmful to health.

Who can use the cream?

If you believe the instructions to the drug, it is suitable for both adults and children. Despite the fact that there are no such limitations as to age, it is necessary to use it in accordance with the established dosage standards. It is also necessary to adhere to the rules of application in view of time.

How to apply and dose a remedy?

Before applying the drug, you should carefully study the instructions and learn how to use Emla cream in certain situations. For example, if you need to anesthetize a small injection site, 1.5-2 g of cream can be used for this purpose. This dosage easily covers an area of 8-10 cm². To achieve a greater effect, it is recommended to cover the treated surface with an occlusive dressing for 1-2 hours.

If it is supposed to freeze a large surface area, the same amount of cream is applied and covered with a bandage for 3-4 hours. When anesthetizing the lower extremities (with trophic ulcers and varicose veins), Emla is smeared with a thicker layer at a dosage of 1-2 g per 1 cm². In this case, you may need not one, but several tubes at once.

However, with this use, it is recommended that no more than 8-10 g of the drug be consumed at a time. In this case, dressings for the treated areas are applied for 30 minutes. If necessary, the time allotted for anesthesia is extended to an hour. With regular use of the cream, "Emla" is used on average up to 10-15 times.

Dosage of the drug for women and men

If you use the product before applying injections of local anesthetics, the dosage will be only 1-2 g per 10 cm² of skin. It is noteworthy that in such cases, the cream is applied in a thick layer, and the dressing is applied for 45-60 minutes (for the fair sex) or 10-15 minutes (for men). If there are atopic dermatitis in both sexes, the time for applying the dressing or application should be reduced to 15-30 minutes.

If you use the cream "Emla" (reviews during epilation confirm the safety of the procedure) to remove unwanted vegetation in the bikini zone, then it should be applied for 30-60 minutes. And this must be done before the epilation. In this case, the time allotted for applying the dressing should not exceed an hour.

How do I dose a cream for anesthetizing baby skin?

When using an anesthetic on baby skin, you should be very careful. For example, the daily allowance for children up to three months is not more than 1 g per 10 cm². For children from 3 to 12 months, the daily norm is 2 g per 20 cm², and the application is also applied for an hour.

Children from one year to six years of anesthetic cream (including "Emla" analogues) can use no more than 10 g of substance per day. The duration of the application will depend on the size of the anesthetic area and will take from one to five hours. From 6 to 12 years, the daily dose can be increased to 20 g of the drug, and the time of dressing application - up to 1-5 hours.

How to store the cream?

The drug should be stored at a temperature of no higher than 30 ° C. It is not necessary to put it in the refrigerator. The main condition is that the drug is away from children. The shelf life of the product is three years. Upon its expiration, "Emlu" should not be used.

An anesthetic cream "Emla": the price

The cost of the cream depends, as a rule, on the price policy of the seller, the manufacturer, the point of sale, and also the region where it is sold. For example, the price of packaging a product of 25 mg + 25 mg (in the box is 5 pcs.) Can range from 1,550 to 1,900 rubles. The cost of one tube of a five-gram means also varies from 270 to 500 rubles. For packing in weight of 30 g it is necessary to pay 1300-1700 rubles.

Are there analogues of cream?

If for some reason you do not like the original drug, you can always use its analogs. Among them, for example, you can identify such a tool as "Kamistad" (gel). Its active ingredient is lidocaine, supplemented by the excellent properties of the flowers of the chemist's chamomile. The drug has an antimicrobial and anesthetic effect on the surface being treated.

There are other analogues of Emla, for example, the antiseptic drug Dentinox. It also contains lidocaine, chamomile extract and polydocanol. It acts as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic, although it is used mainly in dentistry.

Another analogue is the universal cream "Mesoderm" (Mesoderm). This remedy is used mainly for the anesthesia of the skin before the application of mesorollers, the implementation of injection procedures, tattooing. It eliminates irritations and actively fights with possible redness.

To lovers of various salon procedures, such analogues of "Emla" as an anesthetic cream Rinpoche Lidocaine with a high-speed effect are also known. This miraculous means of South Korean production is used for mesotherapy, microlipox, mesodissolution, and also during the tattooing of the lips and eyebrows.

A wonderful alternative to the emla cream is the gel-anesthetic "Goochie" (Goochie). And although its freezing effect can be felt almost immediately after application, it is used solely as a means for secondary anesthesia. For example, if the doctor made an injection and another one is planned.

In addition to the above, we can distinguish the following analogues of Emla:

  • Anesthetic cream Before Depilar;
  • Cream "Light frost" (Light frost);
  • Cream SM Cream with lidocaine;
  • Ointment. Frost (Doctor Frost);
  • Cream Anesten ("Anesten");
  • Gel-anesthetic of TKTX;
  • Cooling gel Anestet ("Anesthet");
  • Gel Light Dep ("Light Dep") and others.

Speaking about the price, many of the analogs are much cheaper, and also have more economical packaging, for example, "Anestezin" (Anaesthesinum), the cost of which is 120-200 rubles. "Dentinox" and "Kamistad" will cost you about 200-250 rubles. Despite this, it is worthwhile to understand that cheap analogues of Emla often can not justify expectations. They either do not give an appropriate analgesic effect, or are in semi-finished form. For example, powder analogs must also be combined with several ingredients, bringing them to the state of the cream.

Are there any side effects?

Like most drugs, Emla can cause certain side effects. For example, at the place of use of the composition, reddening, flaking and other allergic reactions may occur. Also, in some cases, there is swelling, pallor, burning or itching of the skin.

What are the contraindications?

"Emlu" should not be used for people suffering from allergies, as well as having hypersensitivity. Do not use the drug for pregnant women, premature babies and babies weighing less than 3 kg. And of course, the cream does not suit those who have an individual intolerance to any component of Emla.

What feedback can you hear about the cream?

Like any medicine, Emla has a number of supporters and opponents. For example, some are completely satisfied with the action of the facility. Others do not like the price and the fact of waiting for many hours to freeze the problem zone. Still others talk about the small size of the tube, which for a long time is not enough. The fourth complain that the product does not completely freeze the skin, but only partially. Fifth for greater effect, it is recommended to use food film. According to them, this will not spread the cream and anesthetize the entire surface of the skin.

In short, some people like the drug, but others do not. However, both of them singled out both positive and negative qualities, based on their own experience. But to buy it or not, it's up to you, of course!
