Amazonian lily - a gentle and beautiful flower

Until recently, the Amazon lily was the favorite of many florists, and today it is undeservedly forgotten. But this flower is quite unpretentious in the care and very beautiful. The Amazonian lily, called botanist eucharis, refers to the Amaryllis family. Its homeland is South America. On the banks of the river. Amazon meets several species of this plant, but we have the most widespread euharis large-flowered.

This bulbous perennial plant has very beautiful dark green large glossy leaves. They look very impressive even without flower stalks. Each sheet is elongated-oval shape sitting on a long petiole. A deep furrow passes through the middle of the leaf.

For the first time, the Amazon lily blooms in October-November. The adult bulb of eucharis is 6 cm in diameter. The first flowering begins only after the appearance of bulb-children. That is why it is not recommended to plant the bulbs one by one. Re-flowering with proper care occurs in the spring. Before the autumn and spring flowering, the substrate in which the Amazon lily grows should be dried. Thus, the plant is stimulated to abundant and long flowering. The amazon lily blooms with large, white, elegant and very fragrant flowers resembling daffodil flowers. They are slightly drooping, collected in small inflorescences. Flowers are located on a high leafless pedicel, which reaches 60 cm. After flowering, the peduncles are completely removed (it is preferable to simply tear them off and not cut them off). This plant looks great as it is located separately, and in various compositions. Amazon lily, care for which is not complicated, prefers the eastern or western windows, as it does not tolerate the direct light of the midday sun. When a flower is placed on a balcony or loggia, it needs to be shaded.

Optimum temperature for growing this plant: in winter - 18 ° C, in summer - 22 ° C. In summer it is recommended to place it in the open air. Euharis as a truly tropical plant prefers very moist air, which is why it is very responsive to spraying with water. Leaves need regular rubbing with a damp cloth (to remove dirt and dust).

As a substrate, use a mixture consisting of leaf and turf soil, peat, humus, sand (2: 2: 1: 1: 1). Watering eucharis should be regular, but moderately, because with an overabundance of moisture, the bulbs can rot. After flowering, the plants begin a period of rest. For 2 months they are watered fairly rarely, while not allowing a strong drying of the substrate. Lilies are transplanted in the spring. All young euharisy need to be transplanted annually, and adults - every 3 years. Bulbs are planted at a depth of 5 cm. At this time, they are watered rarely until the appearance of the tops of new leaves. Propagate the Amazonian lily with daughter bulbs.

The plant is very responsive to regular top-dressing. The first top dressing is performed with the appearance of the first leaves, and later they are carried out 3 times a month, using complex fertilizers. After flowering, the application of fertilizers is stopped until the onset of spring.
