Who was Mary Poppins by profession? Let's remember

From the very early childhood, we learn the world from the books that mother reads to us. At first, we remember only the favorite heroes: Carlson, Mowgli, Rapunzel. Becoming more mature, we learn that Carlson was "born" in Sweden, which means that people with difficult-to-pronounce surnames like meatballs and buns. Mowgli is a hot, humid India, it has jungles and lost cities. And there is also the country of England, which often has fogs, and people are neat, stiff, externally cold, but full of mysteries and mischief, like our favorite heroine of the same name, Pamela Travers, Mary Poppins. Photo actress Natalia Andreichenko, who performed this role in the Soviet adaptation of the classic English book, stands before her eyes, it is worth to hear the name of this famous character.

Profession Mary Poppins

The peculiarity of this story is that, unlike the characters of most fairy tales, the heroine of this is not a princess, not a sorceress, not a gin from a bottle. On the contrary, in appearance - this is the most ordinary person who deals with the most commonplace business. After all, who was Mary Poppins by profession? A simple nanny, also with the smallest salary. Simple, but not quite, or rather, quite difficult. In the course of reading a series of books about Mary Poppins it turns out that she can fly, conjure, understand the language of animals and babies.

The author of these tales - Pamela Travers plunged the reader into a world of magic, dreams and childhood fantasies. All this is intertwined with reality so much that no one can understand till now who the profession was Mary Poppins, the babysitter or a fairy-tale character, or maybe her job was to stick stars to the sky or help the constellations to fly to the ground once a year and To collect scented herbs? Who is this lady without age, who remained unperturbed in any situation, led a friendship or was related to most of the characters in English fairy tales, and above all, was able to manage children, animals, and adults of any rank and position in society? In fact, who by profession was Mary Poppins, if on the day of her birth all the fish (from the royal salmon to the sprat) gathered, then all the animals from the London zoo , led by the royal cobra, and once congratulated her on this event, All of England? The answer was many times ready to break from her lips, but the question remained open.

The storyline of Mary Poppins

The main storyline of this work is simple enough: one day a new nanny comes to the Banks family living in London on Cherry Street. More precisely, arrives, holding the handle of the open umbrella, driven by the north wind. In her care are two older children - Jane and Michael, and twin babies John and Barbara. (In the Soviet film, two children - Jane and Michael.) In the last books of the series appears the fifth child - the little Anabel. The new nanny dexterously manages with this whole "company", plus it is under the control of their parents, servants and in general the entire Cherry Street. Even the obstinate park guard finally obeys her.

Children adore their nanny, despite her external severity, because they know that every day spent in her community will bring new amazing adventures.

And no matter who the profession was Mary Poppins. Her dignity, intelligence, sense of justice and measure would be envied by many royal cats, what can we say about the kings themselves and their courtiers ...
