What should be the newborn's breastfeeding chair?
Not all parents know, but the newborn's chair on breastfeeding differs from that of an artificial baby. In addition, during the first month of life, stools change their color and consistency several times. Let us consider step-by-step changes in the stool of a newborn.
Stool from birth to 6 months
After birth, the stool is presented in black with a greenish tinge of viscous mass. These feces do not smell, this type of stool is called meconium. Some mothers are surprised to see a black liquid in the diapers, because their child has not really eaten yet. But these excrements are what the baby has swallowed in the womb.
When a child has stools that are yellowish with a greenish tinge, similar to a mushy mass with a mild odor, this is a normal chair for a newborn, you should not worry. Sometimes there is white lumps in such a liquid, but this is normal for breastfeeding.
Many moms are squeamish and can not see the baby's chair. But by the color of the feces you can find out about the health of the baby. For example, a foamy green stool speaks of lactase deficiency. And when the mixture is introduced, the stool becomes darker (between dark yellow and light brown) with a sharp characteristic odor.
What changes with the addition of complementary foods
With the introduction of vegetables and fruits, the stool gets an even sharper smell, becomes dense and constantly changes color. For example, the beetroot gives a reddish hue, carrots color orange, prunes give black feces. During this period, the newborn has a stool with lumps, which are obtained due to undigested vegetables and fruits. Most often, the remnants of undigested food suggests that the baby does not chew on food.
Abnormal chair in the child
Sometimes in feces you can see bloody or mucous discharge - this can be the norm if the child has a so-called period of saliva, and also if the nipple bleeds at the time of feeding. However, mucus and blood may indicate an infection of the intestine. Thus, if the abnormal stool of a newborn breastfeeding is repeated more than twice during the day, you should consult a doctor.
