What kinds of rabbits can be grown at home

On livestock farms, in individual farms, rabbits are increasingly often seen in large quantities - eared animals, the variety of which does not limit. Rabbit breeding in our time is very popular.

Cultivation of rabbits is that section of cattle breeding, which does not require large material costs. In household homesteads rabbits are kept in cages, in the fresh air in summer, in warm rooms - in winter. Before you get down to business, decide what final product you want to get, meat or fluff, perhaps skins and meat. For different purposes it is necessary to purchase the corresponding breeds of rabbits.

To date, there are more than 200 breeds of these animals. According to the varieties of products that a person receives, growing these animals, the breeds of rabbits are divided into several groups.

The first include fur breeds (long-haired and short-haired). Rabbits of these breeds are bred for obtaining fine fur and fluff (white downy rabbit). This group includes, for example, white and gray giants, silvery, Soviet chinchilla and others. Pooh is given by females, so at least two thirds of the rabbits are kept for collection of fluff, the rest for offspring.

Meat-wool breeds of rabbits are grown to produce both valuable skins and dietary meat (for example, a Californian rabbit, a New Zealand rabbit). Especially good is the Viennese blue. Its skins are large in size with soft and fluffy fur. It is used to imitate expensive furs of valuable animals. In this case, the weight of an adult can reach 4-5, and sometimes 7 kilograms.

Meat breed of rabbits is characterized by rapid growth and high slaughter weight. Such rabbits weigh up to 2 kg by two months, and by 5-6 months of age can reach a mass of more than 6 kg. Skins of these animals have no value, they are used as a by-product. In this group, the New Zealand white breed is popular - with high energy and growth rate, the best weight gain per unit of feed. When growing rabbits for meat, the female is used for the offspring once, after it is sold for meat. This reduces the cost of rabbit meat.

And, finally, decorative rabbits. These animals are bred because of their attractive, funny appearance, as a rule, these are breeds of dwarf rabbits. Their small size, extraordinary fluffiness has long won the hearts of both adults and the youngest members of the family. Although miniature rabbits belong to the same group, breeders brought out their different types: with large and small ears, with protruding ears, lop-eared. In addition to fluffy, popular breeds of rabbits are smooth-haired, with velvet skins. Small brisk animals are bred not only in the countryside, in cottages, but even in apartments. Dwarf rabbits are clean, they quickly get used to doing their "things" in the allotted place, attach themselves to the owners. If you provide the animal with enough food, you can leave it for a couple of days at home alone, unattended.

Rabbits of all breeds are very early and prolific. A rabbit can bring up to 15 young for one okrol. And a year the animals can have 5-8 sorols! Count the possible litter with quality care for a long-eared family. The exception to the rule are dwarf rabbits. At them the female leads 1-3 young in one litter, but well nurses them.

In view of the fact that rabbits are herbivorous, their maintenance does not require large material costs. But the quality of the feed must be flawless. The structure of the stomach of rabbits is such that they can not even regurgitate harmful food, as a result, the case begins.

Considering all of the above, we can conclude: rabbit breeding is an advantageous, profitable and extraordinarily fascinating occupation. And its popularity is growing every day.
