What is a multiplex in television

What is a multiplex? The word "multiplex" is English borrowing, in the original language literally meaningful "multi-component, complex". This word is called, for example, a modern type of cinema: a lot of halls simultaneously broadcast different films, but they usually have less capacity. Also, the multiplex usually includes entertainment facilities such as a billiard room. This article considers this term in the field of television.

Multiplex digital TV

A digital multiplex is a set of channels that are transmitted on one frequency. In Russia there are as yet two multiplexes, the third will soon be available, but paid.

The first multiplex is available in all cities with digital TV. For the second, not all the rigs are ready. Broadcasting itself is free. The necessary equipment is a receiver and an antenna, both with support for DVB T2.

First of all, digital TV is available almost everywhere. But all the same they often use only the first triplex. The digital terrestrial TV depends on the proximity of the transmitting station as well as on weather, terrain and other physical obstacles. The ether television reaches where the cable wire (caravan, car) is unavailable.

Differences between terrestrial TV and cable

What is a multiplex can be understood by comparing it with cable television. Cable digital TV differs from the on-air number of channels and, in fact, the lack of that weather dependence, which is available for the air version. And the availability of the price. But the main advantage - the cost. You can do with your own tuning and often the old antenna (depends on the proximity of the transmitting station). A lot of modern TVs have built-in frequency receiver standard DVB T2. The equipment is inexpensive. All major channels and even more the consumer receives free of charge.

What is a multiplex in terms of image? The picture is quite high quality. No interference, in principle, this is the feature of digital broadcasting. But the stop or temporary friability of the picture (all this is called the word "frieze" - from the English "frost") is still possible. The reason for this phenomenon lies in the weather or in insufficient signal power. Connoisseur HD disappointed: not all channels are now broadcast in HD, as well as old movies. In any case, the quality of the second multiplex is standard, but high.

The width of the picture may vary with the channels. Thus, the picture can be stretched in height, cut or at best have frames. This problem occurs when using modern TVs. You can correct the problem by setting the TV or the digital set-top box.

What equipment is needed?

Usually additional equipment is still required: a certain cable, a prefix, an antenna. The antenna is the most common - probably there is no need to purchase a new one. But it should take in the decimeter range (decimeter antenna).

In this respect, the "digit" is unpretentious: sometimes it can be caught either on an ordinary cable or on a public antenna. From the proximity of the station depends on whether you need a room or outdoor antenna, sometimes reinforced.

The DVB-T2 receiver can be built-in to the TV or via the Internet. For example, the Rolsen RDB-507N receiver model is easy to use, has all the necessary qualities, has no drawbacks. Models Mystery MMP-71DT2 and BBK SMP127HDT2 are also suitable.

How the "digit" is connected

To understand what a multiplex is, you need to know how it connects to the TV set. The antenna is connected to the receiver, and the latter is connected to the TV, and preferably via an HDMI cable, which guarantees even higher quality. The connection diagram is available in the instruction manual. Before installing the antenna, you need to turn off its amplifier, if any.

The next step is automatic searching. It is simultaneously at once on 10 channels, on all process takes some time. If the automatic search did not find all the channels of the multiplex, you need to use the manual option. Regardless of the frequency of the nearest tower, it is necessary to try to catch the signal precisely from it.

The power and quality of the signal are also checked. It is carried out by a triple click on the receiver of the Info button (or another name). From 60% and above - the optimal value for both indicators. For each multiplex, the indicators vary, because they are transmitted by different stations.

The notification "No services" appears at low power. Automatic search for such a signal simply ignores. Manual search or fine tuning of the antenna can help. If the signal quality remains the same low, you'll have to deal with the antenna, there are several options: an external antenna or with an amplifier, as an option - raise it higher.
