What is a brief, why is it needed?

What is a brief? In fact, this concept hides a written form of the contract, consisting of technical parameters of the future project, software, media or some other type. A brief is an agreement between parties ready for cooperation, in which all the main parameters are registered and taken into account.

Types of briefs

There are several types of such an agreement, namely:

  • Brief Questionnaire - designed to be polled by one party to another transaction, in order to clarify all the details and tasks.
  • Media Brief is a special kind of agreement used to plan an advertising campaign.
  • A creative brief is created when developing an advertising product.
  • The Expert Brief is a kind of marketing research, it is created when orders for development and creation of a new trade mark are created.

Rules for drafting a briefing

The main rule of this document is the provision and receipt of all the information necessary for the work, which helps the performers to fulfill the tasks set by the customer. In this case, do not confuse it with the order card, it's somewhat different forms. What is a brief? This is data expressed in written form, on the basis of which the employee will assess the conditions of implementation, determine the terms and the final cost. Therefore, this is not the final contract, but the initial stage of joint cooperation.

A definite form of the brief does not exist, each company develops it for its own convenience, but they do not differ significantly among themselves. Similarity is due to the fact that they to some extent contain the following items:

  • Product description, its unique advantages;
  • The description of earlier undertaken actions in the given direction;
  • Description of the target audience, directions of the campaign;
  • Goals and objectives ;
  • Insight or unmet needs of consumers;
  • Campaign budget;
  • Terms.

Depending on the tasks assigned and the solutions being implemented, the items of the brief may be changed or new ones added, which contain an important task for the particular situation. Therefore, which document would not be provided by the contractor, the customer should fill it not only with maximum clarity and fullness, but also approach this task creatively, having completed all, in his opinion, useful information.

What is a brief on site promotion? This is a document containing, in addition to common points, the sections necessary to carry out the assigned tasks, which are very specific in this area. The main points consist of contact information, general information about the company, the purpose of website promotion, the technical data of the web resource itself and the tasks assigned.

To additional items, which are also of particular importance, we should include the analysis of competitors of the company and the target audience. It is very important for both performers and owners of the Internet resource to determine the present position of the site, the purposes of its existence and ways to achieve it.
