Raspberry-strawberry weevil is a dangerous pest. It is a small beetle (up to 3 mm) of gray-black color of weevil family. It hibernates under lumps of soil and plant remains. In spring, with warming up to 10 degrees Celsius, the beetles wake up and come to the surface. The females proceed to laying eggs in the buds of strawberries, later they will pass into the raspberry buds. One female is capable of damaging up to 50 buds, leaving one egg in each.

Weevil on the strawberry leaves punctures, which are visible only after a close inspection. Crippled specimens wilt, wither. As the females bite the pedicels, they fall to the ground.

From the eggs appear larvae (white larvae), which pupate, giving a new generation. Going out, a young weevil on a strawberry eats green berries and flesh of leaves, spoiling them, and then moves to raspberry. Winter it goes to the ground.

In the early spring beds with strawberries must be poured hot water (the temperature of the liquid should be about 60 degrees). During the budding period (one week before flowering) strawberries and raspberries can be treated with a solution of laundry soap (10 grams of water is dissolved in 200 g of soap) or mustard solution (200 g of mustard per 10 liters of water). Damaged buds must be collected and burned. In early May, you can use the following biologics: Iskra, Fitoverm, Akarin, Iskra-Bio. These funds are absorbed by the leaves in 3 hours, the protection lasts about three weeks.

If the weevil on the strawberry multiply, then after harvesting the site is better treated with insecticide solutions ("Corsair", "Actellik", "Carbophos", "Vofatoks", "Ambush", "Gordon", "Metaphos," etc.) . Chemical treatment is desirable to be carried out in the morning to reduce the harm caused to useful ground beetles, destroying pests (1 ground beetle eats 20 weevils per day).

It is very important to follow the rules of agricultural technology, not to plant strawberries next to raspberries, as this facilitates the bug process of moving from one plant to another. Observance of crop rotation and digging of soil under bushes in autumn will reduce the number of pest.

Opponents of the use of chemistry in their garden can recommend another way to solve this problem. Weevil on strawberries can be destroyed and with the help of a safe natural remedy. For its preparation, a three-liter canister for a third must be filled with onion husk and celandine grass in a ratio of 2: 1, then pour boiling water. After cooling, dissolve the resulting solution and sprinkle. The first time - with the first flowers blooming, the second - in two weeks. It would be enough. It should be noted that this means is effective against almost all pests, and it does not deter bees, so spraying will not affect spraying. Moreover, it is still the prevention of fungal diseases, in particular, gray rot.

Struggle with a weevil on strawberries may not be carried out, since this pest does not cause severe damage to crops, because something must remain for its offspring.
