Tips for gardeners: when to transplant the currant

How and when to transplant the currant are very important issues for gardeners who grow this healthy and tasty berry on the territory of the Russian Federation. The plant is distinguished by a large set of medicinal properties, it contains a huge amount of essential vitamin C and natural fructose. Most gardeners consume not only berries, but also fragrant leaves, in which many useful substances are also found.

It is necessary to know when it is better to transplant the currant in different regions. If the garden is located in a region with a moderate climate and a mild enough winter, the transplant can be carried out in the spring or autumn. For territories with cooler temperatures, it is better to perform this operation in the beginning - middle of autumn, after the last leaves fall from the bush.

For a quick and correct transplant, you need to prepare a pit and soil. The size of the hole depends entirely on the dimensions of the rootstock of the currant, covered with a natural earthen lump. If the land on the site is clay, then it should be fertilized with traditional compost, fertile humus or a mixture with forest turf, but it is worthwhile to refrain from coniferous needles as a fertilizer. When deciding when to best transplant the black currant, you need to remember only one rule - demanding early varieties are transferred from place to place only in the fall, otherwise you can not get berries for the whole season.

Immediately after transferring the plant to a new pit, it should be watered abundantly - this is necessary to accelerate the growth of the root system. Having determined when to change the currant, you need to take care of reliable and safe top dressing. Experienced gardeners do not recommend using for this bush fresh manure, lime, ash or complex mineral fertilizers. All the above mentioned fertilizing can damage, namely, burn a tender network of currant roots and destroy the entire plant. If local gardening and the composition of the soil are obliged to make such fertilizers, it should be done only in the spring, after the last snow falls. Of course, when replanting the currant was planned for the beginning of the year, the soil should be protected from rare and unchecked types of fertilizers. Spring work with the bush is much easier, because in winter the soil is heavily compacted and does not give enough moisture to the plant and its root system.

When to change the currant in the summer?

If a stalk of a valuable shrub variety appeared at the hottest time of the year, you need to prepare a pit and a ground, as indicated above, but carefully track the choice of location. Vegetation in summer is accelerated, so you can get the first leaves and even flowers for 1-1,5 months. White and red currant varieties are planted only in places with good lighting, but the exacting shrub that gives black berries, will get well only in shady areas.

Between plants observe a distance of one meter, so it was convenient to harvest and that the bush get enough fresh air and light. If the currant is old, then it is not transplanted at all, but simply harvests cuttings for new rows. However, it is worth remembering that young shoots will be able to give berries only for the next year or even in a few years, depending on how the engraftment and the formation of a new root system will take place.
