The film "Ice Flower": actors and roles, interesting facts

The theme of homosexuality quite often appears in the cinema today. Most often it is affected in European and American movies. The countries of the CIS and Asia rarely film films about same-sex love, but there are exceptions. They became the South Korean film "Ice Flower". The actors participated in quite frank scenes of a sexual nature, so not all South Korean channels risked showing this tape. Despite this, the audience liked this ambiguous movie, telling about the period of the reign of Emperor Komin-wan in the middle of the XIV century.

The film "Ice Flower"

This colorful historical melodrama about love and duty was released on screens in 2008.

At that time it was the most expensive film, shot by South Korea. His budget was $ 10 million, and the total box office gross amounted to almost $ 19 million. The famous South Korean director, scriptwriter and poet Yu Ha made an ice flower.

At home, this film was perceived ambiguously. But in Europe she liked it. The rights to its rental were acquired by Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany and the neighbor of South Korea - Japan.

The plot of the "Ice Flower"

Against the backdrop of the historic power struggle, a love triangle is depicted: King Konmin-van, his wife Noguk and bodyguard Hon Rome.

Due to the fact that his state of Koryo (modern South Korea) is already a long period under foreign yoke, the sovereign urgently needs an heir, otherwise the Mongol Yuan dynasty will seize power. The Emperor, being a homosexual, could not force himself to go to bed with his wife and conceive a child. To save the situation, Konmin-van asks his lover Hohn Rima to spend the night with the queen and become the father of his heir.

Overcoming the experience, Hon Rome fulfills the request of his sovereign. However, they and the queen do not get to conceive a child. The King is disappointed, but even more worried about is that Hon Rome and the Queen fall in love with each other and begin to meet secretly. During one such "meeting", Konmin-van, surrounded by guards, finds lovers. He is furious because of treachery and orders to scorn Hon Rome. Soon it turns out that the queen is pregnant. The king decides to recognize her child as her, but at the same time orders to kill all those who know about adultery, including Hoon of Rome.

In the meantime, the queen is plotting to overthrow her husband, and her supporters are saving Khon Rima. Hardly having come to himself, the hero fights his way into the rooms of Konmin-wan and summons him to a duel. In the process of fighting, the sovereign wins and mortally wounded the lover, but he at the last moment, playing on the feelings of the king, also manages to strike him with a katana. As a result, both opponents are killed.

Interesting Facts

The creators of the film "Ice Flower" were quite free with the historical truth. Actors (photo below), although they played their roles perfectly, but are not very similar to their historical prototypes, in particular Konmin-van.

The historical truth about the relationship of the king and the queen is slightly different. Queen Noguk from the Mongolian clan of Yuan was a faithful and loving wife who did not even think about treason. Konmin-van soul in it did not see and did not neglect the marital duty, as shown in the film. Together they lived for sixteen years, but had no children. Later Noguk managed to get pregnant, but she died during childbirth with the baby.

The Sovereign mourned for a long time for his beloved woman, which did not stop him, but spend time in the company of four more wives and two concubines, and also have a love relationship with young men from the personal guard. One of them, the same Hon Rome, dared to have an affair with one of the wives of the king named Lick.

According to the official historical version, having learned about the betrayal of the spouse and lover, Konmin-van ordered the private guard to kill the latter. But they raised a riot and killed the king himself. True, many historians believe that the killing of the ruler had political motives. The fact is that all bodyguards in the royal guard were representatives of influential noble families, and Konmin-van at that time carried out a lot of reforms in the country, designed to limit the power of the aristocracy, which caused widespread discontent. As a representative of a noble family, Hon Rome might have hoped after the birth of the child (if it is a boy), put him on the throne. But a girl was born who lived only two years, and the son of one of his concubines became the heir of Konstin-wan.

Real Konmin-van was not only a visionary politician, but also an excellent musician and artist. At the end of the film, before the credits, there appears a picture of his work with the two hunters depicted on it.

The title of the film "Ice Flower" is the name of the famous Korean folk song of the XIV century Ssang-hwa-jeom, dedicated to the intimate relationship between a guy and a girl.

As for the process of working on the film "Ice Flower", the actors did not even fully read the script, hastening to agree to participate in this project. So did the performer of the main role Cho Ying Song, while he was the first of the main cast to receive an invitation to star in the "Ice Flower". But Chu Jin Mo (King Konstin-van) joined the project shortly before the filming began.

Despite the scandalous reputation of this film, on the day of the premiere in the whole country, more than 3.5 million tickets were sold.

The film "Ice Flower": the main actors

To attract the attention of South Korean viewers, the main roles were taken by the stars. So, the main female role - the Queen Noguk - went to the former model of the journal Kiki Song Ji Hye.

Other actors of the film "Ice Flower" were also not new to the world of film business. Cho Ying Song, the performer of the role of Hon Rome, became famous as an actor in melodramas, and Chu Jin Mo was not only a favorite actor in the audience, but also a musician.

Both performers of the main male roles are fond of taekwondo, which helped them to portray the fighting scenes quite naturally, in particular the final duel.

Contrary to the expectations of the fans of the film, there was no novel between Cho Ying Song and the beautiful Song Gee Hye, and after the shootings they ceased to communicate at all, although the actress tried to renew her acquaintance, but Cho ignored her attempts.

Chu Jin Mo (Konmin-van)

Chu Jin Mo is the oldest among the trio of actors of the main composition of the film "Ice Flower". Actors and other members of the crew noted that he is quite similar in character to his hero - the same responsible and serious.

Born Park Jin Te (real name of the actor) in 1974 in the South Korean city of Seoul. His film debates took place when he was 25, by that time, on the advice of his agent, he took a more euphonious pseudonym - Chu Jin-mo.

The first real breakthrough was the participation in the film Dance, Dance. After that, the young actor was noticed and began to be invited to appear not only in the dramas, but also in the movies. In parallel with acting, Chu Jin is fond of singing. He demonstrated his vocal skills in one of the episodes of "Ice Flower".

For the film "Ice Flower" the main actors were nominated for many prestigious South Korean prizes. Among them, Chu Jin Mo, whose acting skills were appreciated - he won the Paek Sang Arts Awards in the nomination "Best Actor". Interestingly, before the "Ice Flower" Mo claimed this award in 2000 in the nomination "Best Beginner TV Actor", but did not receive it at that time. These awards are especially valuable for Mo, because by profession he is not an actor, but a physical education teacher. Today, Chu Jin often starred in films and television. In addition, he tries his hand on the stage: in 2015 he played the role of Rett Butler in the South Korean production of "Gone with the Wind."

Cho Ying Song in the role of Hon Rome

Countryman Chu Jin Mo is Cho Ying Song, who played Hon Rome. Like Mo, Cho Ying was born in Seoul, though 7 years later - in 1981.

After graduation, the young man entered the Faculty of Modeling at the University of Chunnam. Later, he began studying acting at the University of Donguk, although he was expelled because of a rare attendance.

In parallel with his studies, Cho Ying was a model of the Ziozia brand. Later he was invited to act in films. Soon the directors noted that behind the beautiful appearance of Sona is hidden and an extraordinary dramatic talent, and began to offer him serious roles.

Shooing in films and television, Cho Ying-sung won many awards for participating in South Korean projects like New Nonstop, Piano, Shoot for the Stars, What Happened in Bali, Spring Day and A Dirty Carnival. By the way, the director of the last film from the list was Yu Ha, who later invited Son to the film "Ice Flower".

The actors and roles they played in the "Ice Flower" did not always match the real features of their characters. So, Cho Ying Song specifically agreed to participate in the "Ice Flower" to go beyond the established role and play an emotional hero, rushing between love for the sovereign and his wife. The hero of Sona is a participant in all the erotic scenes in the "Ice Flower", and the actor was able to perfectly depict love and passion in bed with both a man and a woman.

In the period 2009-2011. Cho Ying Song was in the army, and after demobilization again began to act in films.

Song Ji Hye in the role of queen

For participation in the film "Ice Flower" she was nominated for the Paek Sang Arts Awards, but she did not get it. But after the film in the career of the beautiful Son Ji, a bright band began - she not only won prestigious TV and film awards, but also became a regular participant in the popular TV show Running Man.

Other actors

In addition to Hye, Mo and Sona, other remarkable actors were shot in the film.

"Ice Flower" was the debut film for South Korean actor Son Zhong Ki.

Like Son Ji Hye, this young man participated in the Running Man show and received an award in 2010. He is known for his roles in such dramas as The Innocent Man, Triple, Descendants of the Sun and others.

Another famous South Korean actor Doram named But Min Wu starred in the "Ice Flower". Young Jong Rima and Konmin-vana were played by Yo Jin Gu and Li Pung Woon.

The ice flower of Adonis

Sometimes spectators confuse the film "Ice Flower" (2008) with the drama "Ice Flower of Adonis" (2012).

The plot of this drama is not original: a modest and good-natured girl named Sol Yong Hwa dreams of succeeding on her own, without outside help. Learning that her lover hid her from her origin, Sol Yong breaks up relations with him.

But to start life from the beginning the girl does not have time - because of the intrigues of her half-sister, she is in prison on a charge of murder. After a while the girl manages to get out of there, but all people from her past have crossed her out of her life. After learning the truth about her sister, Sol Yong decides to take revenge on her and all those who are connected with it, and Choi Kang Wook, who is in love with her, comes to her aid.

The plot of all 108 series gradually tells how the relationship between Choi Kan and Sol Yong develops, how they manage to achieve their goal. Based on this drama in 2015, the Ukrainian television series "Immortelle" was shot.

Doramas "The Ice Flower of Adonis": actors and roles

The main role of the brave Sol Yong-Hwa was played by the famous South Korean TV actress Li Yu Ree. Her spiteful half-sister was embodied on the screen by Yun Ai Jong, and the former bridegroom by Haen Woo Sang. A close friend, in love with Sol Yong Choi Kan, was also played by the famous South Korean actor Jung Chang.

Almost ten years have passed since the release of the movie "Ice Flower". Actors and the roles that they performed in this film, have long been included in the history of not only South Korean but also world cinema. Ironically, compared to today's European cinema, where erotic scenes between men have become almost normal, the "Ice Flower" now seems almost puritanical.
