The drug "Remantadin-STI"

The drug "Remantadin-STI" is a specific chemotherapeutic agent that has antiviral activity. It allows you to inhibit the synthesis of the virus envelope. Also, this drug inhibits the development of arboviruses that cause encephalitis (the carriers are mostly ticks).

Remantadine-STI medicine is metabolized in the liver and after 3 days the fifth part of it is excreted in urine in unchanged form.

Indications for use

This drug can be used for children after 7 years of age when it is necessary to treat early stages of the flu. For adults, it can be used as a prophylaxis for influenza during its epidemic and for the prevention of viral tick-borne encephalitis.

Tablets "Remantadin-STI" - instruction for use

The drug in the tablets is swallowed whole, then washed down with water, it is best to take it after eating.

When carrying out the prophylaxis, one tablet is taken every day for a month. If there was a skipping of the drug, the next dose is taken at the appropriate time and the dose is not doubled. Before taking Remantadine-STI (pills), you need to consult a doctor.

If this medication is used to treat influenza in children, then at the age of 7-10 years, two tablets should be taken, at the age of 11-14 years it is recommended to take a tablet (50 mg) three times a day. The same treatment of adults provides for the first day of treatment, taking three times a day for 2 tablets, and you can also take a specified amount (6 tablets) of the drug. During the second and third days, 2 tablets are taken twice a day, and on days 4 and 5, the same amount of the drug, but once a day. Usually the duration of treatment with Remantadin-STI remedy does not last more than 5 days.

In those cases when the prevention of viral tick-borne encephalitis is necessary for children, the drug should be prescribed only by a doctor. Take this remedy only after the bite of the tick. Adults need three days to take 2 tablets twice a day, sometimes the reception can be extended to five days. In those cases when more than 2 days have passed after a tick bite, there is no sense to drink Remantadine-STI remedy. If you are going to a campaign in those places where there is a danger of infection with viral tick-borne encephalitis, then this drug can be used as a prophylaxis even without a tick bite. In such cases, 15 days are taken by one tablet, but this can be done only by adults, for children this method of prevention is unacceptable.

Possible side effects

In most cases, the drug Remantadin-STI is well tolerated. But sometimes all the same can arise:

• Dyspepsia, diarrhea, rash;
• Noise in the ears, ataxia, depression, drowsiness, hoarseness of voice, agitation.

Contraindications for use

The drug "Remantadin-STI" is not assigned in the following cases:

• In the presence of acute and chronic kidney disease, as well as in acute liver diseases;
• During lactation, as well as during pregnancy;
• In the presence of intolerance to adamantane derivatives or other components;
• At a thyrotoxicosis.

During the treatment with this drug is not recommended to drink alcohol, as this can cause negative reactions from the central nervous system. Acceptance of acetylsalicylic acid and paracetamol significantly reduces the effect of this drug.

Overdose

Exceeding the recommended dose of the drug may cause a person to hallucinate, increased agitation and cardiac arrhythmia, which in rare cases can even lead to death. In case of overdose it is necessary to perform treatment with physostigmine, for adults 1-2 mg, and for children 0.5 mg is enough.
