Temple of Euphrosyne of Moscow in Kotlovka - a monument to the glorious pages of Russian history

In 2010, in the capital on Nakhimovsky Prospekt, the newly built church was solemnly consecrated in honor of the faithful companion of the life of Prince Dimitri Donskoy - Princess Evdokia (in the monastic life of Euphrosyne). The idea to perpetuate her memory was born for many years and was finally realized. Upon completion of the construction, the church of St. Euphrosyne, Grand Duchess of Moscow in Kotlovka, opened its doors.

The wife of Dimitry Donskoy

The temple of Euphrosyne of Moscow in Kotlovka is remarkable primarily because it commemorates the memory of a saint whose life is inextricably linked with the key moments of the history of Russia. Prior to the adoption of the monastic vows, which the Princess performed at the dawn of her days, she bore the name of Evdokia. The daughter of Prince Suzdal, even in his youth, Evdokia was married with the Moscow prince Dimitri.

This was an unusually difficult period in the history of the Russian land. Fragmented and not having centralized power, it could not withstand the numerous hordes of invaders who came to Russia from the wild steppes. An important advantage of the enemies was the strict discipline established in their ranks, based on fear of the ruthless khans, who led the troops.

The wedding took place in 1367. Since then, for twenty-two years, Evdokia has been a faithful helper and companion to her husband. When in 1380 Prince Dimitri brought Russian warriors to the Kulikovo Field, his wife prayed ceaselessly about granting victory over the adversaries, and when the regiments led by her husband overthrew and destroyed the hordes of Mamai on September 21 she met him at the Spassky Gate of the Kremlin Surrounded by jubilant Muscovites.

The new invasion of Tatars and the death of her husband

She was next to Dimitri Donskoy and during a time of severe troubles, when two years later the Tatar Khan Takhtamysh, taking advantage of the favorable situation for him, plundered and burned Moscow. When the Grand Duke returned to the Lord, Evdokia, contrary to the tradition established among the widowed princesses, did not go to the monastery, but started raising six sons-future princes of the future, whom she gave to Dimitri at the time of their happy marriage.

When, on the slope of the years, Evdokia decided to take monastic tonsure, the inhabitants of Moscow, with tears, accompanied her to the monastery. There remained records indicating that this her departure from worldly life was accompanied by many miraculous healings of the suffering who were at that moment on her way. So, for example, one seriously ill on the eve of her tonsure saw in a dream that the princess promised to heal her of the ailment. On the way of Evdokia the sufferer approached her, and she touched her with the edge of her clothes. Immediately a miracle happened, and the patient recovered.

In the monastery the widow of the prince took the name of Euphrosyne, she peacefully departed to the Lord in 1407. Immediately after her death, the princesses became famous for many miracles, done by prayers over them. The memory of the saint is celebrated on May 30 and July 20.

Creation of a temple

Before the church of St. Euphrosyne of Moscow was erected in Kotlovka, in 2003 the works of its founder opened a temporary church. She taught the basics of faith, which is important, since the level of knowledge in this field among the population was very low.

The temple of Euphrosyne of Moscow in Kotlovka was laid in 2005. The place for him, allocated by the administration of the capital, was not chosen by chance. The fact is that, according to available historical data, it was here that the estate of the pious princess Evdokia was called the Boilers. An important historical event is associated with it - in this estate the princess accepted the future saint - Metropolitan Cyprian. She managed to persuade him not to leave Moscow, which elevated the city as the spiritual center of Russia.

When the church of Euphrosyne of Moscow in Kotlovka had not yet been consecrated, the relics of the saint, who had been kept before in the Ascension Monastery , had already been transferred to it . It was done in an atmosphere of special solemnity. The consecration of the church took place two years later - in 2010. Since that time, the temple of Euphrosyne, Grand Duchess of Moscow, in Kotlovka began to open its doors every day for everyone who wished to attend divine services.

Holy Relics of the Temple

The temple of Euphrosyne of Moscow in Kotlovka keeps in its walls the holy images recognized as miraculous. Among them are such icons of the Mother of God as "Pochaevskaya", "Inexhaustible Chalice" and "Vladimirskaya". In many ways, thanks to the miracles revealed through these holy images, the church of Euphrosyne of Moscow in Kotlovka is invariably full of parishioners and residents of other districts of the capital.

In recent years hundreds of new temples have been opened all over the country. This fact pleases our hearts, because in the long decades of the theomachism so much was hastily and recklessly destroyed from the heritage of the previous centuries. It's time to realize this, to repent and to fill the lost as much as you can.
