Table top with tiles

The advantages of a tile top are undeniable! First, the cost of the finished product is much lower than its analogue of marble or granite. Secondly, the technical characteristics of porcelain stoneware are much stronger than stone and do not give in to external influences. The third advantage that the table top of a tile is characterized by is a huge selection of textures, colors and formats, allowing to realize any imagination. Moreover, such a work is not really difficult, and it is quite possible to fulfill it independently. The top of the tiles will look great in the bathroom as a whole with the decoration of the walls. In addition to kitchen surfaces, according to the technology described below, you can make and window sills.

So, we will tell in stages how to make a table top. The first thing you need to get started is choosing the material for the finish. It is best to take the same tile as for the cladding of the working wall. So in the end you will get a harmonious and beautiful kitchen. The format can be very diverse: starting with a shallow mosaic or classic 10x10 and ending with a giant tiles of 60x120. The latter fit much faster, but require a certain skill.

As a basis, take two sheets of 20 mm thick plywood grade FB or PSF. We impregnate it with a moisture protection agent. Cutting is done taking into account the protrusions along the section for 3-5 cm. Also, take into account that it is necessary to make a hole in which the sink is inserted under the countertop.

The first sheet of plywood is fastened so that it is still. For this, we attach it with self-tapping screws (3-4 pieces) on each side. Also additionally fasten with metal corners. On the top of the sheet we apply a zigzag glue for wood. Please note that it must be moisture resistant. We glue the second sheet and fasten it with screws. We make small serifs on the surface. Then, using a stapler to the plywood, we attach the paint net to the tension. The joint between the table top and the wall is smeared with sealant. And the edge is treated with a moisture-insulating compound.

As a result, we have two interconnected layers of plywood, securely attached to the kitchen sections. The side parts are treated with a waterproofing agent. A paint net is attached to the surface of the plywood ; on top, it is also treated with a moisture-repellent solution. In principle, our table top is ready for tiling.

Anyone who has ever put a tile on his own will easily cope with the task. Since the principle is the same. First of all, put up the beacons. Next, prepare the mortar for the tile (glue) and start laying. Figure drawing on the technical characteristics of the counter does not affect. The size of the seams also does not matter. It all depends on the chosen tile. The main thing is to thoroughly wipe them afterwards, and treat the joint between the wall and the surface of the countertop with a sealant. The outer edges and the end are faced with special elements (tubes, friezes or friezes), or the tiles are cut at 45 degrees for an even, neat joint.
