Soviet motorboat Ob

The Novosibirsk aviation plant named after Chkalov produced motor boats popular in the USSR from the 1960s. They became very popular in our country because of their low weight and good maneuverability. The motor boat "Ob" (and today we are talking about it) was created for fishing and water walks.

Its body is made of duralumin sheets D16. The bottom has a thickness of 2 mm, the sides - 1.5 mm. The case riveted with putty and gasket. The "Ob" boat needed constant maintenance of the hull seams, which were subject to discrepancy. On the sides there are boules that make the boat more stable and add a buoyancy vessel. "Ob" became popular among fans of recreation on the water and fishermen very quickly. It became widely used for long-distance sport swimming and as a pleasure boat. It is unpretentious in operation, has a small weight, which greatly facilitates its storage ashore.

The "Ob" boat has an automobile layout. The steering wheel is on the left. The entire width of the cockpit is a sofa. From wind passengers protects a two-section windshield. In the forward compartment there is a small trunk. To inspect the fort, there is a hatch with a sealed cover, which is fixed with screws. In trade, this model came without a tent and with minimal equipment. Production ceased in connection with the launch of the new model.

The boat "Ob - M" was presented to the public in 1975. This model has increased keel. On this boat it is allowed to go out at excitement to three points and three kilometers from the shore. Blocks of foam plastic, which are laid along the bottom of the fort and the sides, ensure its unsinkability. Under the bow deck there is a luggage compartment, which is hermetically sealed by a hatch. The same compartment is also in the stern. It is designed to store fuel and is a regular tank and four 10-liter cans.

This boat has a windshield, outboard motor with remote control, detachable awning.

The experience of water engines and customer feedback showed that the Ob-M boat was an unsuccessful model. During operation, it became clear that the longitudinal set and the gunwale from the duralumin corners are susceptible to corrosion. This forced the plant's specialists to start designing a new model. So there was a boat "Ob-3".

Beginning work on the new design, the specialists of the famous Novosibirsk plant tried to take into account the proposals of the owners to correct all the shortcomings of the previous models.

In the new model, new trimaran contours appeared, which are closer to the stern and turn into a "gull wing". They significantly improved the hydrodynamic characteristics.

In the cockpit of the new model there are four soft comfortable chairs that can easily be transformed into sleeping places. From the wind and splashes of passengers the boat protects the windscreen, which is installed on the deck. The boat is equipped with an awning that can be easily removed. The frame of the awning is made of thin-walled pipes. Boat "Ob - 3" in the set has paddles, navigation lights, scoop, repair kit. Even on modern frames this boat is a qualitative means of moving on water.
