Secure Boot: How to disable the feature

Today we will talk about what Secure Boot is. How to disable this element and what it is needed for, consider next. It's about the hardware configuration software that is used today instead of BIOS on various motherboards.

General information

We have already determined what a Secure Boot is. How to disable this element is a question that becomes especially relevant if the function prevents the download from a flash drive or disk, during the installation of Windows or another operating system. There are several other situations where deactivation may be necessary, but they are less common. Very often the case when a message appears on the main desktop indicating an incorrect configuration of Secure Boot. How to disable this notification, we will also tell. In many ways, the deactivation procedure depends on the UEFI interface. Therefore, recommendations for several options will be described below.

Options

First of all, go to the UEFI settings. In other words, go to the BIOS of the computer. For this, the following method exists:

  • If the PC is running Windows 8 or 8.1, go to the right panel and select the "Options" item.
  • Then we wait for the next menu to open and go to the "Modify Parameters" tab.
  • We use the function "Update and Restore".
  • We are waiting for the launch of this tool and choose "Recovery".
  • We press the button "Reload".
  • Then we go to "Additional parameters", and then - to "UEFI software settings".
  • The computer will reboot and display the necessary settings.

Delete

We continue to discuss the function of Secure Boot. How to disable it, you can understand only after entering the BIOS. The first version of the launch of this element was described above. But a similar result can be achieved in another way. When the desktop is turned on, click Delete. To resolve the issue of how to disable Secure Boot on a Lenovo laptop, another key may be required: most often F2. Pay attention to the initial screen when you turn it on. It often indicates the button we need.

Example of deactivation

Next, we'll take a closer look at how to disable Secure Boot on an Asus laptop. This instruction can be considered universal, as it is suitable for most other motherboards that support the function of interest to us.

  • So, go to the "Download" tab and find the Secure Boot.
  • Go to the item OS Type set to Other OS.
  • After that, we save the settings - as a rule, the F10 key is responsible for this.
  • On certain types of Asus motherboards for the specified purpose, go to the Security or Boot tab, then set the Secure Boot option to Disabled. The task is complicated by the fact that the function of interest to us, as a rule, can not be turned off at the basic settings. Switching between Enabled and Disabled is not available.
  • To make the change available in the Security section, set the password using Set Supervisor Password if necessary. Only after that we disable the safe download.
  • Additionally, you may need to activate the Legacy Mode or CSM boot mode instead of UEFI. On certain motherboards from Gigabyte, disabling the Secure Boot mode is available in the "BIOS Settings" section.

To start the personal computer from the USB flash drive, you will also need to activate the CSM download and the previous version of the inclusion. On most computers and laptops, the described options for finding the required function work. Certain details may change, but the algorithm presented remains constant. For example, on some models of HP laptops, you need to go to the System Configuration section. Then select the Boot Options item. In the appeared menu, find Secure Boot.

It should also be said briefly about Acer notebooks. In them, the function of interest to us is deactivated by means of the Authentication section. It is possible that to achieve the result you need to go to Advanced, and then open System Configuration.
