Sarah Ward: filmography, personal life

Sarah Ward is a British actress, whose fame has brought the role of Romana in the fantastic television series "Doctor Who." She also wrote three books and recorded several audiobooks.

First roles

Sarah Ward graduated from school at the age of 14, since she (in her own words) "hated every minute of her." From 1968 to 1971, Ward studied at the Royal Central School of Stage Speech and Dramatic Art in London.

The actress debuted on the big screen in 1972, performing a supporting role in the horror film "The Circus of Vampires" by Robert Young. Modern film critics took the film well. AllMovie called this picture one of the most stylish and clever projects of the Hammer studio. In 2012, based on the film came out the same name book.

In 1975, the young actress got a role in the adventure thriller "Rosebud", based on the novel by Joan Hemingway. Although director Otto Preminger picked up a strong cast for the film, the picture did not acquire much fame.

"Doctor Who"

In 1979, the actress played the role of Roman in the episode "Armageddon Factor" of the fantastic television series "Doctor Who." Ward brilliantly coped with a difficult role. Producers suggested that she replace the actress Mary Tamm, who decided to leave the television series. Ward agreed, and over the next two seasons appeared in almost every episode of the series. Career

After the television series "Doctor Who", the actress played in several television films. After marrying actor Tom Baker, Ward decided to complete her acting career. However, in 1993 she again played Roman in a special issue "Doctor Who: Changes in Time."

Sarah Ward is fond of drawing and needlework. She even wrote two books on knitting and one on embroidery.

The actress has been engaged in charity for more than twenty years.

Personal life

In 1980, the actress married Tom Baker, the star of the television series Doctor Who. Their union did not last long - in 1982 the couple divorced. The main reasons for the divorce were different interests, views and lifestyle.

Sarah Ward has been friends with Douglas Adams, writer and screenwriter for many years, together with whom they worked on the television series Doctor Who. The death of Adams in 2001 was an enormous blow for the actress.

It was Adams who introduced her to Richard Dawkins, a biologist and writer, known for his books "The Selfish Gene" and "Unwinding the Rainbow". In 1992, Ward married Dawkins. In 2016, after twenty-four years of marriage, Sarah Ward and Richard Dawkins split up.
