Rhinopharyngitis in children

Inflammatory processes in the mucous membrane of the pharynx and nose are called rhinopharyngitis. The following main signs of the development of this disease in children can be named:

  • Dryness and tingling in the nose and throat;
  • dry cough;
  • Coryza;
  • Sore throat when swallowing.

At the first signs of the appearance of such a disease as rhinopharyngitis, children and their parents often have a question: go to the doctor or do the treatment on their own? When addressing this issue, special attention should be paid to the fact that in some cases (especially in older children), rhinopharyngitis can occur almost unnoticeably and very easily. The temperature of the human body, like its general state, can remain unchanged. This feature of the disease often leads to an underestimation of all its consequences. In fact, rinofaringitis in children is not as harmless as it might seem at first glance.

The nasal cavity in man is not only the respiratory tract, but also serves as a barrier to getting into the body of infections, dust and other unfavorable substances. The finest villi, with which the nasal mucosa is covered, do not allow unfavorable substances to penetrate the body. In the mucosa there are glands that secrete a special mucus. It is she who cleans the surface of the mucous membrane and helps moisturize the air we inhale. A special substance in the mucus - the so-called lysozyme - acts as a detoxification agent for microbes.

Due to the appearance of rhinopharyngitis, the mucous membrane of the nose swells, thereby slowing the movement of the villi, nasal passages considerably narrow. All this leads to the fact that air enters the respiratory tract dry and not warmed. Breathing occurs mainly in the mouth, which contributes to the development of the inflammatory process and in the pharynx. It also swells.

At such times, the body's immunity drops significantly, which can lead to the development of other serious respiratory diseases. As you know, the nasal cavity is connected with the middle ear through the Eustachian tube. The spread of inflammation to the Eustachian tube can lead to inflammation of the middle ear itself. Perhaps the development of diseases such as angina and inflammation of the paranasal sinuses. Sinusitis is a very serious complication for young children, because the constant inflammatory processes weaken the body, the child is more often sick.

If the rhinopharyngitis in children is not treated in time, he can go to the stage of a chronic disease. During the period of illness, small patients are recommended to eat foods at the optimum temperature.

The greatest danger of rhinopharyngitis is for very young children, the disease in which it is very difficult. The disease is accompanied by a significant increase in body temperature, vomiting, loss of strength, a violation of sleep and appetite. Acute rhinopharyngitis in children can lead to significant complications.
