Psychology of Creativity and Child Development

Creativity is a mysterious process, the basis of which psychologists seek to understand for many years.

Psychoanalysis, beginning with Sigmund Freud, tried to explain the craving for creative self-expression through the concept of sexual energy. Behaviorists considered it nothing more than a fixed way of behavior. And existential psychologists viewed the creative process as an attempt to escape beyond the usual framework of our existence.

In general, the psychology of creativity is currently trying to answer the question of how to find or acquire talent, on what factors it depends.

Most schools agree on one thing. Creative abilities are not limited only to the ability to draw beautifully or play well on musical instruments. They imply the possibility of using past experience to create a completely new knowledge, the ability to move to the unknown, to a new stage of realizing reality.

Thus, the psychology of creativity sees its main task as creating conditions for a person to make similar transitions in his consciousness. And, of course, the development of these abilities begins in childhood.

Teaching in kindergartens and schools

Unfortunately, traditional education in children's GBOU is built on instilling in children standard patterns of behavior. The psychology of creativity is practically not studied at all, although the compulsory program includes such activities. The main task of schools is to teach the child in accordance with generally accepted concepts, and not at all in revealing his creative potential.

Currently, there are alternative directions in pedagogy, which are aimed at developing hidden talents and opportunities for children.

Maria Montessori School

This is a very famous and beloved direction in pedagogy, which states that every child is a creative person. You just need to help him find himself.

In the classes in Montessori groups, a special environment is created, where children need to go beyond the usual actions and decisions to solve their problems. As a result, they learn to think outside the box, gain independence of judgment and can reveal their abilities. Of course, this method has its drawbacks. What is important is that it takes into account not only the need to develop certain skills, but also the psychology of the child's creativity.

If kindergartens or schools with different methods of education and upbringing do not meet the requirements of parents, they can independently engage with children, revealing their individuality and talent.

Independent classes for the development of children

Studying creativity, psychology traditionally emphasizes the ability to think outside the box and develop imagination. At the moment, there are many games and exercises aimed at developing an unusual approach to solving problems. Even for the youngest children, they produce toys that develop fantasy.

The psychology of artistic creativity studies the possibility of perceiving color and form, and also answers the question of how to remove internal interference to the drawing process. Many schools have been created that allow not only to learn drawing, but also to change internally, to become a freer person. So, if you want your child to be able to draw and create truly unique works, you can invite him to start learning within one of these areas.

So, the psychology of creativity studies the possibilities of a person to go beyond the usual framework and assigned roles. This path is not simple, it can make a person happy and unhappy. But if parents see unusual abilities in their child, they can help him to reveal them. However, it is worthwhile to warn that the person should choose the life path, regardless of the opinion of even the closest people.
