Weaving since ancient times was used in the Russian folk tradition for embroidering various coastal towels, towels and other elements of folk art. In addition, on old weaving looms, weaved cloths, which were the basis for men's and women's clothing. The ancient traditions of Russian weaving made it possible to accumulate a wealth of experience in this area of cultural heritage, as a result of which we today have a rich collection of various methods of decoration and embroidery, in which the patterns for drawing occupy a significant part.

In Russian patterned weaving, two types of this art are mainly used: broeches and mortgages. The first was particularly widespread in the north and represented the distribution of the pattern along the lines, depending on the color of the thread - red or white. With the help of a special long plank, which was installed on the edge, from the edge to the edge a thick red thread was punched, which went consistently at first from the face, and then from the wrong side. The result was a beautiful brunette fabric. This is a rather laborious process of patterned weaving, for which sufficient experience and skill of the needlewoman was needed. With regard to the mortgage, then patterned weaving of this type was made from woolen threads to obtain embroidery of high glossy flooring.

In addition to the usual linen weave, Russian craftsmen often used the method of weaving threads and cages, resulting in elegant towels and tablecloths. As the main tool for creating the canvas, we used a loom called the mill.
