Medieval justice: a cruel instrument of torture of the Inquisition

Friends, do you think that was the most terrible in the Middle Ages? No, not the absence of toothpaste and not even endless war! Of course, our ancestors did not visit cinemas and did not exchange SMS with each other, however they were also inventors. And their most terrible invention was the instruments of torture of the Inquisition - the Christian justice of that time.

To begin with, it should be noted that the torture of the Inquisition had about a hundred varieties. Some "tools" have survived to this day. However, most often these are ordinary museum exhibits, restored according to descriptions. Certainly, the sophistication of the mind and invention of inventors of that time simply amazes with its cruelty!

Torture No. 1 - shoes with spikes

This is iron shoes, under the heel of which is a sharp spike. The victim had to stand on his heels with a thorn twisted upwards until his strength was exhausted. Can you imagine how difficult this is? Here yourself try to stand on the toes and check how much you stay in this position?

The Torture Tool No. 2 is the "fork of the heretic"

This brutal device was four sharp spikes, two on each side. The upper two crammed the heretic into the chin and the lower ones into the sternum. This completely immobilized the victim, not allowing her to make any head movement. The head began to swell, a hemorrhage to the brain began. The Torture Tool No. 3 - "Witch's Armchair"

A potential witch was tied to an armchair, which was suspended on a long pole, lowering it into the water for a certain time. Then the witch was given the opportunity to take a small sip of air, then again lowered into the water ... This torture was especially cruel in the winter. In the ice they made an ice-hole, which allowed the witch not only to suffocate, but also to cover with a crust of ice!

The Torture Tool No. 3 - "Cat's Claw"

In this case, this "tool" was not used to scratch your back. He was stabbed into a heretic, whose flesh was torn slowly and painfully. It came to this that the same hook was pulled from the victim not only internal organs, but also ribs. This, perhaps, was the most cruel ancient tool of torture, with which the servants of the Inquisition tried to get the confession of a heretic!

Other instruments of torture

  1. Among the other torture measures invented by the sophisticated minds of that time was the so-called "Spanish boot". This special mount on the victim's leg with a special fixing plate, which with each denial of the heretic to answer questions, was delayed with even greater force. In the end, the bone in his leg broke down. As a result, the heretic remained with shattered bones below the knee.
  2. One of the medieval torture devices that have survived to this day is the so-called "rack". Today, many representatives of the criminal world use this method to obtain this or that recognition. A man is suspended from the ceiling with his shoulder joints turned back, and a heavier load hangs on his legs. As a result, there is unbearable infernal pain until the rupture of muscles and joints of the shoulder girdle! To increase the effect, bandits inject adrenaline into the bloodstream, preventing the body from turning off during pain.
