Medicinal preparation 'Augmentin': instructions for use

The medical drug "Augmentin" refers to broad-spectrum antibiotics. It is used in the treatment of infectious diseases in children and adults. The main components are amoxicillin (antibiotic) and clavulic acid (a substance that prevents bacterial enzymes from destroying amoxicillin). The drug is well tolerated, the level of toxic effects on the human body is minimal.

"Augmentin". Instruction: contraindications and precautions

The drug is contraindicated in persons who have increased sensitivity to cephalosporins and penicillins. In addition, it is not recommended for those who have side effects when taking the drug in the past.

Contraindicated drug during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. Getting into the body of a pregnant woman, "Augmentin" overcomes the barrier (placenta) and gets into the fetal blood. Negative effects on the fetus were not found, but the drug should be prescribed to a woman in position only if the benefit from it is much higher than the risk of undesirable effects.

In the lactation period, "Augmentin" is also undesirable, as it excretes in breast milk, which can cause an allergic reaction in the baby.

Isolation of the drug is carried out by the kidneys, so in cases of application of the drug in renal or hepatic insufficiency, the dosage of the drug is strictly following the doctor's recommendation.

Side effects appear in rare cases. This can be nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness and weakness, allergic reactions (Quincke's edema, urticaria, analytical shock), candidiasis and dysbiosis, in elderly people, hepatitis and jaundice may develop.

The use of "Augmentin" with allopurinol increases the risk of an allergic reaction.

Doses of the drug are prescribed by a doctor and depend on several factors (age, weight, severity of the disease, general condition of the patient).

Children over 12 years and adults are prescribed one tablet (0.375 g) 3 times a day for the average course of the disease; With severe infection - one tablet (0.625g) three times a day.

When using injections (if necessary), the maximum single dose is 1.2 g. Injections should be repeated every six hours. On the day the dose of the drug (with intravenous administration) should not exceed 7.2 g.

Children up to 12 years old are prescribed augmentin in the form of a suspension. A single dose of the drug in children 7-12 years is 250 mg, in children 2-7 years - 125 mg, in children from 9 months - 62.5 mg. The day is supposed to take three times a medicine.

If necessary, administer the drug intravenously to children under 12 years of age, the calculation takes place on an individual basis.
