How to make a self-made snowmobile on caterpillars with your own hands?

Those who like to often go fishing in the winter, very often face the problem of patency. After all, not always even on an off-road car you can directly drive up to the bank of the river and even more to the very place of fishing. An exit from this situation will be a caterpillar snowmobile. However, the price of such equipment in stores is sometimes not affordable, and therefore there is a need for the manufacture of such a device with their own hands. In today's article, we'll look at how a homemade snowmobile on caterpillars is done and what it takes to have it.

Caterpillar

First of all, you should start with the most complicated element of the snowmobile design - the caterpillar. Along with the motor, it is the main motive element of all equipment. In order to do it, first you need to draw drawings of homemade snowmobiles on caterpillars (roughly as in our second photo). So you will know the exact sequence of the work performed and do not forget about any small detail. And now about how to make a caterpillar in practice. For this we need to take a plastic pipe (approximately 40 mm in diameter) and 2 strips of a conveyor belt. The number of pieces of strips depends on how long your caterpillar will be. Work with these parts, or rather, their processing is easily done on a circular or circular saw (Bulgarian). In this case, cut the part one by one at a time. This is necessary to ensure the accuracy of the work performed. How to connect the conveyor belt to the halves of the cut pipe? To do this, we need two furniture bolts, while the diameter of their thread should be about 6 millimeters. If you combine this value of the elements with the manufactured structure, the step between the grooves on the output will be 93 millimeters.

When "basting" parts of pipes cut with their side outward, be sure to maintain the distance between them. If the displacement is 3 or more millimeters, this will lead to an inconsistent operation of the teeth of the drive gear and the tape itself, which will cause the snowmobile to break through. And this already leads to loss of controllability. This discrepancy can lead to the fact that the tape can simply slide off the rollers.

It is important to comply with the dimensionality of the caterpillar. How long it will be, directly depends on the power of the engine on which the homemade snowmobile will operate. On tracks, it is necessary to calculate the nominal pressure of all machinery on its plane. Thus, the curb weight of the snowmobile relative to the roadway should not be more than 0.4 kg / cm ² .

How to make a tape?

Self-made snowmobiles on a caterpillar run quite normally work on the tapes drilled by an ordinary drill. However, for the device to work as long as possible, it is necessary to refine the drill in advance for work with rubber. Preliminary, you should purchase a tool designed for the processing of wooden surfaces. Do not use drills for metal.

Other chassis parts

With the rest of the units it will be easier. For example, knots such as axles and rubber wheels, "Buranovskie" leading sprockets and protected bearings, can be purchased at any specialized store. By the way, it is better to buy wheels inflatable. This technique will be softer on the go. The axis can be taken from a simple garden trolley (biaxial). If necessary, you can cut or, conversely, expand it to the appropriate values of the technique. If you do not have the opportunity to purchase a drive shaft in a shop, you can try to make it on a lathe. When making a shaft, make sure that the bearings fit well in size.

It will carry out our main supporting function and retain all the details, including the engine, in one whole. By the way, as a motor it is possible to use a power plant from a motorcycle together with a gear box. But back to the frame. We will produce it from a square steel tube with a diameter of 25x25 millimeters. In this case, weld it in such a way that it has two longitudinal and three transverse beams. The presence of these parts on the frame will significantly strengthen its design.

Finishing work

Finally, how to install a self-made snowmobile on the caterpillar steering gear. In the process of assembling a snowmobile, it is necessary to make two rotary bushings. This will be your steering gear. How it's done? To the front beam, you need to weld a 1/3-inch female tap with a female thread and screw in the pipe with an external thread. The nozzles already have racks of the ski track and welded bipods for the steering rod. By the way, you can use skis from the usual children's car "Argamak". But before that, prepare them beforehand for installation: attach the angles of fastening the turntable and cut the metal. This will greatly improve the maneuverability and quality of the snowmobile at high speed.
