Great mathematicians of Russia and their discoveries

Many Russian scientists have achieved success, recognized internationally. Often their main field became exact sciences, for example, mathematics. The best specialists in this direction have made many important discoveries, their inventions are used in different countries of the world. What great mathematicians of Russia should everyone know?

Pavel Alexandrov

The future scientist was born in the city of Bogorodsk, today - Noginsk. Education was in the gymnasium, where he immediately began to show an inclination towards mathematics, which he was carried away under the influence of the teacher Alexander Eiges. Once the teacher told the students about Lobachevsky and young Alexandrov immediately decided to do geometry. In search of knowledge, he entered the university in Moscow. There he began to study the "continuum problem", but unsuccessful attempts for some time disappointed him. However, even other well-known scientists of mathematics have not solved the problem . The world of pedagogy fascinated Alexandrov for a couple of years, but then he again returned to his favorite science. He laid the fundamental foundations of abstract topology - his scientific works serve as a base for specialists around the world. In addition, for thirty years, Alexandrov headed a mathematical society that published a journal with the latest discoveries. His achievements are recognized by other countries - Paul was elected an honorary member of the Göttingen, American and Berlin Academies of Sciences.

Ivan Vinogradov

Even the most famous mathematicians of Russia did not always make a splash in the scientific world - to some, the recognition came gradually. Quite differently, everything happened to Ivan Matveyevich Vinogradov. He managed to prove Goldbach's problem and at one point become famous. According to the theorem, starting from a certain value, any odd number is the sum of three primes. In addition, it can be understood from Vinogradov's calculations that there is a solution for even ones. Such numbers represent the sum of four simple. What is interesting: Goldbach did not even raise this question. Vinogradov also owns about one hundred and twenty scientific works. They made him a real star, bringing him such glory that not all great mathematicians can boast of. The history of mathematics preserves the memory of him as an outstanding scientist and honorary member of scientific societies and academies around the world.

Mstislav Keldysh

Many great mathematicians of Russia showed their amazing abilities at a fairly early age. So Mstislav Vsevolodovich Keldysh - he received the title of academician in 35 years. Such achievements are quite expected - the scientist was distinguished by incredible work capacity and real talent. By the age of 16 he had finished school and decided to enter the Physics and Mathematics Department of Moscow State University. After training I went to aviation, where for four years I had performed a number of the most important scientific experiments and obtained a degree. For success in the field of aircraft construction, Keldysh deserved several State prizes. He was able to calculate ways to eliminate vibration in the wings and wheels during a runaway, takeoff and landing. Based on his calculations, a speedboat was created. In addition, Keldysh made important observations in computational mathematics.

Sofya Kovalevskaya

The list, in which the great Russian mathematicians would be included, can not be complete without this name. Sofya Kovalevskaya is the most famous scholar of the country. Since childhood, she was not like other children, preferring to all entertainments thinking. She decided to study mathematics in order to understand with her other secrets of the universe. The wall of Sophia's children's room was pasted with sheets of Ostrogradsky's textbook, which first introduced the girl to the world of science. Then she began to study the book of Professor Tyrtov, with the help of which she learned the basics of physics and trigonometry. So began her journey to science, but in her homeland to receive the appropriate education for the woman was impossible, and she went abroad, to Berlin. Scientific works brought Sophia a Ph.D., she made a number of outstanding discoveries and became a celebrity for the whole world.

Andrey Kolmogorov

The gallery of great mathematicians can not be complete without this scientist. He became the first representative of cybernetics, created works known worldwide for applying scientific analysis to literary works. He began to engage in mathematics at the university, in addition, he wrote a variety of works on philosophy and logic. Kolmogorov's contribution to cybernetics was noted not only at home but also abroad - he was accepted into the Polish and Romanian academies of sciences, and also noted by a doctorate degree at the University of Paris. The foundations of the theory of probability and mathematical statistics he developed not only advanced the knowledge of mankind forward, but also helped many Kolmogorov's students achieve significant successes in their own careers.

Alexey Krylov

The boy grew up in a rather poor family - his favorite toy was an ax. Little Alyosha amused himself by chopping the larvae out of the wood. The relatives often thought that from such a child a robber would turn out, but everything turned out quite differently. He decided to become an engineer, and this required mathematics. Krylov began independent studies and by the age of 15 he had mastered a serious stock of knowledge. During the training, he hit the professors and stood out among fellow practitioners. Krylov went to the service of the Geographical Department, where he wrote a scientific paper on compasses, and then decided to engage in shipbuilding. Many great Russian mathematicians were theoreticians, and only a few are distinguished by a narrow practical specialization. Krylov is one of them. For the ship's business, his knowledge turned out to be key. His works, combining mathematical theory with engineering practice, serve as the basis even now. In addition, he conducted a number of successful studies. His main works on the structure of the ship are used in shipbuilding to this day, and not only in Russia, but also in other countries of the world.

Yuri Linnik

Many great mathematicians of Russia worked in the early and middle of the twentieth century. This applies to Yuri Linnik, who graduated from Leningrad University in 1938, shortly thereafter published a paper on the Frobenius theorem. By 1943 he already had the title of professor. Stunning work in the field of number theory made him a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences. All his life he devoted himself to solving the most difficult problems, trying to find for them the simplest methods. Among other things, he analyzed several important questions in probability theory, studying the foundations created by the British Hardy and Littlewood. He formulated a theorem that a large natural number can always be represented as the sum of a prime number and two natural numbers squared. The name of Yuri Linnik is known to scholars of mathematics around the world.

Alexander Lyapunov

Many great mathematicians of Russia studied at the Petersburg University. Alexander Lyapunov was also his graduate. For scientific work, written in the fourth year, he received a gold medal. Lyapunova was distinguished by phenomenal efficiency. In addition, he was a talented teacher - students noted that for a short lecture he managed to tell what remained unfamiliar even the best students of the course, going far beyond the program. Alexander Mikhailovich Lyapunov developed many assumptions about the stability and equilibrium of moving mechanical systems, developed laws by which it is possible to determine the shape of the surface of a rotating fluid and derived the basics for managing production processes that are in use today. Finally, Lyapunov wrote several works on probability theory, mathematical physics and other key areas of science.
