Electronic paper

Electronic paper is a modern technology that allows you to display information in the form of an imitation of conventional ink. This newest image carrier radically differs from liquid crystal display screens with matrix illumination. Electronic paper is capable of reflecting light in the same way as ordinary paper. Its capabilities allow you to show the text for as long as you want, and also change it. In this case, this information carrier does not require power feeding.

In order to create paper of an electronic type, different technologies can be used. Often in the production process of an information carrier, a plastic substrate and electronics are used. The result is a display that has enough flexibility, which allows you to read the text in comfort. Paper electronic type has a stable image that does not require updating, as well as a large viewing angle. The convenience of this information carrier lies in its ability to reflect the sun's rays without creating its own light. The percentage of sharpness of the image does not decrease.

In 2008, electronic paper was produced with a regular newspaper newspaper contrast. Modern manufacturers have slightly improved this parameter. In the future, a full-color electronic information carrier is expected to be created.

Electronic paper serves as price tags in trade, for displaying the timetable for public transport at stops. It is used in displays of mobile phones and in special equipment containing digital versions of literary and journalistic publications.

The technology of producing electronic type paper was developed in the seventies of the last century. The first carrier of this kind of information was a complex consisting of spheres having a polyethylene base. The diameter of each of them was from seventy-five to one hundred and six micrometers. Each of the spheres was a particle of Janus, consisting of plastic: on one side of black, and on the other - of white color. All elements were placed in a transparent silicone sheet and were free to rotate. At the same time, the black side of the plate was carrying a negative charge, while the white side was positive. The polarity, which was determined by the voltage applied to all pairs of electrodes, gave direction to each sphere that turned either white or black side. At the same time, a certain image appeared on the screen.

Two decades later, another kind of electronic paper was invented. Its principle of operation is based on electrophoretic image technologies. In this information carrier , microcapsules filled with colored oil are disposed, as well as charged particles having a white color. The control of the underlying wiring facilitates the placement of elec- trical elements, either above or below the capsule. Thus, when viewing the image, you can see the color of the oil or white media. The use of capsules allowed to abandon the glass display and make it of flexible plastic sheets.

At the present time, colored electronic paper has been invented. It consists of painted thin optical filters, included in a monochrome display. The points of such a screen are divided into triads consisting of yellow, magenta, and also cyan colors. In contrast to displays that work from electricity, where the technology of color addition is applied, in electronic paper they are subtracted. The same principle of creating colors is also used in printing.

The autonomy of the operation of electronic paper gives it advantages over various devices equipped with displays. This modern information carrier is reliable and easy. At the same time, displays created on the basis of electronic type paper are flexible enough.

Companies that produce modern devices for displaying various information are in constant search for new technologies.
