Drizzt Do'Urden - the main character of the books of Robert Salvatore

Drizzt Do Urden is a book character created by science fiction writer Robert Salvatore, as well as a character in a series of computer games, the actions of which take place in the Forgotten Realms universe. For the first time Drizzt appeared on the pages of the novel "The Valley of Icewind," and then Salvatore wrote about this hero a separate cycle, which began with the prequel trilogy, telling about the youth of the character.

Character Creation

Drizzt Do Urden (dark elf, or drow) was invented by the author for the book "Crystal Shard", published in 1988. Initially, Salvatore planned to make the main character of the work of the barbarian Wolfgang. But the publisher editor demanded that the author come up with an unusual satellite for his main character.

Salvatore, without leaving the editor's office, came up with a name for the new hero and the main characteristics - a drow ranger. In further work on the book, the author polished the image of Drizzt, giving the dark elf features of his favorite movie hero - Zorro.

Drizzt became the favorite character of El Salvador and most of his readers. He often leads polls and ratings on the heroes of the universe Forgotten Realms.

Biography

Drizzt Do Urden (the character of the Forgotten Realms universe) is the youngest of the sons of Malis, the matrons of the ninth House of the City of Drow Menzoberranzan. His father was a gunsmith at home - Zaknafeyn. The third son in the family, Drizzd was to be sacrificed to the goddess Lolth, according to the custom of the dark elves. But on the day of his birth the eldest son in the family was killed, his death was considered for the sacrifice.

Raised a little Drizzt Virne, his sister. Since childhood, the youngest son was very different from other drow manifestation of charity. Thanks to his father's innate agility and training, Drizzt became an excellent swordsman. However, the cruelty of the relatives led to the fact that the hero fled. He wanted to call his father with him, but Malis sacrificed him to the goddess Lolth.

After an escape for many years, Drizzt spent in the Dungeons. In these wanderings his only companion was the panther Guenhwyvar. Loneliness had a detrimental effect on his mental health, he was once again in the fury of a berserker.

Later, Drizzt met the gnome Belvar, who became his companion. But the family did not forget about him, continuing to follow, then the drow decided to leave the Dungeon and come to the surface.

Surface

On the Surface, Drizzt Do Urden became the same outcast as he was among his brethren. He was pursued by people and tried to kill, considering dangerous. For a while Drizzt spent in the grove, where the tracker Montolio lived, who taught the elf to live on the Surface. After Montolio died, Drizzt went to the Valley of Icewind. Here he became friends with the king of gnomes Brenor and Catti-Bree, his daughter.

After that, Drizzt became famous as a magnificent warrior and became a hero of the Valley, taking part in the battle against the barbarians and war with the sorcerer Akar Kessel, who went crazy. Then the dark elf went to Mithral Hall on Bruenor's campaign, in which he made himself a serious opponent - the hired killer Artemis Entreri.

The drow once again raids Mithral Hall, which kills Wolfgang, Drizzt's friend, and Catti-Brie's fiancé. For many years after that, Drizzt had a dilemma - does he have the right to be with Catti-Bree, especially when Wulfgar was reborn. The elf's suffering ended when Wulfgar married another girl, and Catti-Brie chose Drizzt.

The invasion of the dark elves was stopped only by the combined forces of the magicians of the Harpels, dwarves and knights of the Silver Moon. After these events, Catti-Brie and Drizzt left Mithral Hall and for the next 6 years fought with pirates, floating on a ship under the command of Dudermont. However, the past did not leave the lovers there either. With the help of various tricks, the demon Errtu was lured to the Valley of the Winds by Drizzt and Catti-Brie, where they had to fight evil. During the battle it became clear that in fact, Wulfgar is alive, although he has changed because of the sufferings experienced in the demonic captivity.

War with the orcs

Wulfgar leaves his friends, as he does not think that he can not live peacefully after all that he had endured in captivity with Ertu. At this time Drizzt Do Urden together with friends sent to destroy the artifact of Krenshinibon. But Jarlax deceives them, and then takes away Crenshinibon. Friends catch up with the kidnapper, and Drizzt is forced to fight Artemis Entreri, sworn enemy of the dark elf. The parties diverge after Jarlax imitates the death of Drizzt.

After long wanderings, Wolfgard returns to the company. And friends go in search of the Fang of the Defender, who lost Wulfgar.

The war of Mithral Hall with Obould, king of the orcs, gathered a huge army. Returning with the dwarves subordinate to him, Brenor Combat Hammer decides to secede from the main army and poison himself with his friends and trusted people. This ends in the fact that they find themselves in a fortified city surrounded by orcs, cut off from the main military forces. Drizzt goes on scouting, but orcs tightly surround the fortress, and he turns out to be cut off from friends. The drow sees the orcs breaking through the defense and bursting into the city. Drizzt, confident that his friends are dead, falls into a rage and at night cuts out tribes of orcs.

But in fact Brenourou and the others are rescued and return back to Mithral Hall, where the main battle with the forces of Obould occurs. As a result, during the battle with Drizzt, the king of the orcs falls into the crevice.

End of the war

Drizzt Do Urden finally returns to Mithral Hall and reunites with friends. Here the drow tries to spend all his time with Catti-Bree. At the same time, he tries to persuade Brenor to conclude a truce with the orcs, which at the very end is the real goal of Obould.

In the army of the orcs begin to grow dissatisfaction with the actions of their king. A group of conspirators appears, which is making an attempt to overthrow Obld. The king manages to avoid death from the hands of traitors only thanks to the help of Drizzt and Brenor. After that, dwarves and orcs sign a peace treaty.

Pirates

After these events, Drizzt Do Urden, whose adventure books are popular around the world, joins Captain Dudermont, who is attempting to defeat the lich of Arklem Grith, the head of the Luskan Sorcery Main Tower and helping pirates.

Drizzt and Dyudermont ultimately manage to destroy the physical shell of the lich, depriving him of power. Dudermont is appointed by the ruler of Luskan. But because of the conspiracy of the High Captains, he perishes, and all power goes to this society. Drizzt and the surviving satellites of Duderman manage to escape from the city. Despite the fact that the city's rulers suffered heavy losses, the Witchcraft Tower is still intact, and falls into the hands of Valindre, a disciple of the defeated lich.

At the same time, it becomes clear what happened to Wulfgar - he returns to the Valley of Icewind, to his homeland, to the place from which his journey began long ago. Here he managed to find peace of mind, and visions of demonic torture finally began to recede. He lived a quiet life, like his ancestors lived. His way broke up with the path of the dark elf and he will no longer participate in the adventures, which Drizzt Do Urden will never again enter.

The comic book about the adventures of drow is basically a repetition of novels, and in our country is not very popular.

The last book

In 2009, the last book on the adventures of the drow, which was called the "King of Ghosts", was published. This novel describes the Magical Plague, which plunged the world into chaos. Artifacts are destroyed, the magicians perish, the imposters call themselves kings - with all this and many others, Drizzt and his friends will have to figure it out.

Drizzt Do Urden: Personality and Appearance

Drizzt is very different from other drow. His cruelty, meanness and deceit are alien to him. It was for his humanity and nobility that he became an outcast among the dark elves. An excellent example of the personal quality of the hero is the episode in which he rescues people who previously hunted him.

Drizzt worships the goddess of nature, Milica, in contrast to other drow who glorify the bloody spider-goddess Lolth.

The appearance of Elf Salvatore describes very roughly, therefore the readers of his appearance look at the illustrations. It is known for certain that Drizzt has purple eyes and a dark complexion, he is of average height, has developed musculature and lean physique, and has long hair.

Combat style. Drizzt is one of the few drow who managed to master the style of Draa Velve ("Two swords"). To master this style, you need an innate ability to balance, which allows you to control two hands simultaneously. Followers of Draa Velve fight with two swords, one is used to attack, and the other is for defense. Drizzt himself was one of the best warriors among his people.

In addition, Drizzt is an excellent ranger, able to move silently and hide from the shadows. Possesses some magical abilities. He knows several languages, including the elven and dwarven.

Drizzt appeared several times in various games around the universe of Forgotten Realms, mostly as an episodic hero. For example, in games Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, the drow meets the players as an assistant or opponent, which must be defeated.
