Day of the donor in Russia and all over the world. When do they celebrate the donor's day?

Today we will tell you about the Day of the donor when and how celebrated in the Russian Federation and throughout the world. Also from this article you will know what it was installed for and to whom it is dedicated.

General information about Donor Day

The blood donor's day is one of the social holidays, which is not only national but also international. According to the founders, this event is primarily dedicated to the donors themselves. On such a day, congratulations and thanks to people who donated for a long time or once handed blood to save lives or protect the health of completely unfamiliar patients. In addition, this holiday is dedicated to doctors who take blood sampling, as well as to other medical workers who develop all sorts of techniques, carefully examine the material being handed over, monitor the operation of the equipment and the sanitary condition of the transfusion centers.

Day of the donor in Russia

Every year on April 20, the Russian Federation celebrates one of the most important social holidays. The name of it sounds like the National Day of the donor.

For the uninitiated, it is very interesting, why was this number chosen for this holiday? As you know, the occasion for his establishment was a rather humane event. The fact is that in 1832, on April 20, a young obstetrician from St. Petersburg, Wolf Andrey Martynovich, for the first time conducted a successful blood transfusion of one of the parturient women with obstetric hemorrhage. Thanks to the competent work and professionalism of the doctor, the woman's life was saved. It should be noted that the donor of the blood used during the operation was the patient's husband.

Some statistics about blood donation

The donor day was established for a reason. Every year in our country more than one and a half million people are in dire need of blood transfusion. According to experts, about 200 liters of donor material are needed daily in the Russian capital. By the way, more than 35% of the blood for transfusion to Moscow and the Moscow region comes from other regions of our country.

According to statistics, since the late 1990s, the urgent need for donor blood has increased several dozen times. This is due to the fact that it was from this time on that increasingly different emergencies arise (terrorist acts, man-made disasters, earthquakes, etc.). This situation in the country was facilitated by the fact that the number of donors also increased significantly (about 17 times).

Why do I need donor blood?

The donor's day was established not only to thank the Honorary donors of Russia and those who have direct treatment of the material, but also to remind people how their patients badly need the blood.

It should be noted that not everyone knows why donation is needed at all. The fact is that blood and its components are needed, firstly, for patients with severe oncohematological diseases. By the way, among such patients there is a rather large percentage of children younger and older.

Secondly, donor blood is extremely necessary for those people who were in a serious traffic accident.

Third, the material is in great need of women after childbirth and patients of various specialties, associated with a great risk to life and health.

Are there any supplies of blood? We find out together

The donor day was established after several tragic events. After all, explosions in the metro, terrorist attacks at airports and aircraft crashes showed that a huge number of patients in the blood need to get into a difficult situation. As practice shows, there are a lot of sympathizers and those who want to help the victims in our country.

According to experts, in the event of an emergency in Russia, there is a strategic supply of donor blood. This is a stock of red blood cells, which are in a deeply frozen form. The number of strategic dosages is approximately 3500-5000 units. In addition, in special centers, about 35 tons of fresh frozen plasma are stored.

Features of the national holiday

The events dedicated to the National Day of the donor are officially held in all Russian subjects on April 20. On this day, questions are raised about the problems of donation in the Russian Federation, and experience is also exchanged.

It should be noted that the most important problem today is a noticeable reduction in the number of donors. That is why during the last few years all sorts of activities have been actively conducted that help to revive the donor movement in Russia. So, the federal program on development of service of blood has been developed.

Law on donation

In 2013, on January 21, the law "On the donation of blood and its components" came into force. According to him, gratuitous blood donation is encouraged in the Russian Federation. The reward is that volunteers are given the opportunity to have lunch free of charge. However, for the scarce blood groups, the fee is still preserved. Moreover, the Ministry of Health issued an order that allows a citizen who submits his material to write an application and receive money instead of a hot meal.

By the way, according to the same law, the list of benefits, which was previously provided to donors, was reduced. However, such changes did not affect Honorary Volunteers.

Who are the Honorary Donors of the Russian Federation?

Honorary donors in our country are those people who in their entire life donated blood and its components at least 40 times or at least 60 times donated plasma.

In addition to the usual Badge of Honor, such volunteers are encouraged to take an annual vacation at a time convenient for them (according to the TCRF), to receive medical care out of turn in state institutions and the right to purchase vouchers to any Russian sanatorium at the place of study or work.

It should also be noted that annual payments intended for honorary donors have increased by approximately 1.5 times. Now this amount is approximately 9959 Russian rubles. At the same time, donor payments will be indexed every year according to inflation.

World Donor Day

As it was said above, the day of donors is not only national but also international. Thus, in May 2005, during the 58th World Health Assembly, which was held in Geneva, the date of the social holiday was approved on 14 June. The donor day is celebrated all around the world at this time. This number was chosen for a reason, because it was on this day in 1868 that the Austrian immunologist and physician Karl Landsteiner was born. In 1930, he received the Nobel Prize for such an important discovery as the definition of human blood groups .

Features of the international holiday

As well as national, the International donor's day is marked quite actively. So, every year on June 14, millions of people come together to hold activities that encourage the world's people to help each other in difficult situations.

In all large and small cities of the Russian Federation and the world, press conferences, actions and exhibitions are held, in which the medical workers, honorable donors, representatives of the government (the public) and the media take an active part. As a rule, such activities are aimed at highlighting existing problems and tasks of donation. During press conferences and other meetings, it is decided how to improve the work of the centers for delivery of materials, and also how to encourage people to donate blood.

It should be specially noted that on this day, medical stations and blood transfusion centers are open to all comers. As the statistics show, on June 14, the points of delivery of materials accept an incredible number of volunteers. Each of them strives to contribute to the development of donors all over the world. Thanks to such people, millions of lives are saved every year.
