Configuring the DIR-320: step by step guide. Configuring Wi-Fi on the D-Link DIR-320 router

Buy a new configured router - no problem for the domestic user, but often there is a need to make some adjustments to the parameters for yourself. This is where the problems begin, because the operating instructions contain only data on the installation of global parameters of network equipment for unobstructed operation on the Internet.

The focus of this article is on setting up the DIR-320. Step-by-step guide not only helps the user to quickly master the control panel of the router, but also acquaints with all the functionality of the network device, which is not advertised in the characteristics of the purchase.

The first step in customizing

Many owners of computer equipment face problems when connecting the router to a personal computer or laptop. The problem lies in the settings - the computer and the network device work in different networks. The first step that the owner of the DIR-320 router should do is reset the settings. The procedure is simple. On the back of the device there is a "Reset" button. It is necessary to connect the router to the mains, wait for the device to load (15-20 seconds) and with a sharp object (needle or toothpick) to hold the reset button for a few seconds. The signal for the reset is the indication on the router - all the lights will blink at the same time.

Connecting to a computer

Configuring the DIR-320 router starts with connecting to the workstation. The bundled Patchcord cable requires connecting the router to a personal computer or laptop. The network equipment has 5 ports, one of which is intended for connection to the Internet (WAN). The rest of the ports are needed to build a local network. Here's one of them and you need to connect the cable "Patchcord".

The DIR-320 router is configured in such a way that when it is connected to the Internet, the device automatically receives unimpeded access to the global WAN. Accordingly, the four LAN ports of the router allow the user to connect to the Internet. In fact, the owner of the network device does not need to configure anything. The main thing is to connect the network cables correctly.

Preparing the Workstation

Most personal computers have automatic settings for the network, but there are exceptions. Therefore, it is necessary to get acquainted with force majeure. Configuring the DIR-320 router is only possible when the network equipment and personal computer are on the same local network. The default is 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.254. The router takes its first value and automatically assigns addresses to all devices connected to it. Accordingly, the computer must automatically receive the address from the network equipment, otherwise the configuration of the DIR-320 will be impossible.

Go to the "Network Control Panel", the user must go to the "Change the parameters of the adapter." After finding the desired connection, click on it with the alternative mouse button and select "Properties". In the menu that appears, place the cursor on the "IP version 4" field and click the "Properties" button. Then, in the opened menu, set the option "Receive automatically" in the two fields of the computer settings and save.

Download Control Panel

The DIR-320 router is controlled via the Web interface, so the user needs to open any browser and enter "192.168.0.1" in the address bar . With the correct connection of the router to the computer after a short delay on the monitor screen, the network equipment will be prompted to enter the control panel with a login and password request.

The data for the input is indicated on the label, which can be found on the bottom of the case of the router. Often the username and password are identical by default - "admin". It is entered without quotes, in uppercase Latin letters in both fields of the request.

Security - above all!

For the D-Link DIR-320 router, the hardware setup begins with the software update from the official website of the manufacturer. To do this, click on the link specified in the user manual and download the current firmware version. Alternatively, the software for the router can also be downloaded from the provider's website. After all, the Internet service provider is interested in ensuring that its client has a secure firmware. Often, the provider provides users with a ready-made firmware with settings for the network. Naturally, it needs to be downloaded before connecting the router to the computer.

The DIR-320 is simply stitched. You need to go to the "Maintenance" tab in the control panel and select "Firmware Update". A dialog box opens and prompts you to specify the path to the file on the personal computer. After clicking the "Ok" button, the download will start. At the end of the firmware, the equipment will be rebooted automatically.

Make it Fast

The DIR-320 can be configured in manual or automatic mode. At least, so says the manufacturer. In fact, all additional settings are made manually. Automatic mode (with the assistant) only provides the user with the right sequence of menu items for the convenience of making the necessary settings. If you want to set up an Internet connection, the assistant prompts you to enter the necessary data for the correct connection. Otherwise, the control panel provides access to wireless interfaces.

In the DIR-320 router, the WiFi configuration is simple - you need to specify the name of the access point (the name of the detected network) and set the password. All other parameters are set automatically. In the manual mode, the user will have to specify a dozen parameters himself. Many users believe that manual tuning is more interesting in terms of learning how to work with a network device, but it is times more complicated than automatic input.

Working with the modem

In the DIR-320 router, the 3G configuration is carried out only in manual mode. Before making changes, owners need to read the instruction manual, which details the operation of the device with several providers at the same time. The fact is that inadvertent actions the owner can disrupt the operation of the wired connection.

On the control panel, select the first item "Internet Settings" and go to the "Settings" section. In the appeared window click the button "Manual settings", located at the very bottom. In the next window, the user's choice should be made in favor of a "PPP connection via USB". Since the D-Link DIR-320 does not have a modem connection specifically to 3G (even a regular GPRS phone can be connected), the user only needs to fill in the required fields. For 3G connection, you specify: login, password and dial-up number. For the phone, you must additionally register the operator's server and specify a command for dialing.

Tweaking the local network

It is also interesting in the D-Link DIR-320 router to configure the demilitarized zone. Hidden from other people's eyes, the network can combine all the electronics in the house, giving access to it on the network to only one owner. If we talk about security, the menu item DMZ is mandatory for detailed study by the user.

Fans of online games will have to get acquainted with the port forwarding, because very often providers close unused ports. This is done to protect their own network, but many people forget about the game lovers. With the port forwarding to the DIR-320, everything is simple: the protocol is specified, then the replaced ports are assigned opposite each other.

Finally

It can not be said that the configuration of the router on its own will be easy. Network equipment requires a lot of attention and certain knowledge. Any parameter specified incorrectly will cause the router to fail, and accordingly will block the user's access to the Internet. But any problem is solved: the router can always be returned to the factory settings and start all over again.

And yet experts in the field of IT technologies recommend that owners of network devices get acquainted with the instruction manual - normal flipping will not be enough. It is necessary to read the manual completely. Only after studying the basic parameters and the correct filling of all fields on the control panel of the device, setting the DIR-320 can bring results.
