Bodong - what's this? The meaning of the word, the history of its origin

Bodun - this is what awaits a person in the morning after a good drinking. Pain in the head, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and general weakness are only half of the symptoms accompanying this unbearable "disease". Most striking is the fact that people themselves bring their body to this difficult state. But now it's not that important. Let's talk about what a hangover is. Why does it arise in the morning? And where did the very expression "from bodun" go?

Intoxication with alcohol

Bodun is another name for a hangover. It appears because of the oversaturation of blood with alcohol, as well as severe dehydration of the body. After all, in itself, ethyl alcohol is a diuretic. It provokes an accelerated withdrawal of fluid from the human body. It is because of this peculiarity of alcohol from hunguana that people experience severe thirst and dry mouth.

As for the remaining symptoms of a hangover, they arise under the influence of harmful toxins contained in any binge. For example, the accumulation of acetaldehyde in the body leads to dizziness, nausea and arrhythmia. But the notorious headache arises from the fact that alcohol increases blood pressure and dilates the blood vessels. Therefore, a hangover is not just a bad state of health in the morning, but a real poisoning with toxins. And this should be remembered. After all, if a weak intoxication passes by itself, then serious medication requires medication.

Historical roots of the word: the first version

In ancient times in Russia a barrel was called a "bodnya". In those days it was one of the largest tanks used in simple life. Vegetables were salted in it, drying was added, birch sap was closed and, of course, wine or mead was kept. Therefore, when a man woke up after a drinking with a strong hangover, he was told "got up with a hangover." This was a joking hint that yesterday he drank a whole barrel of alcohol, not thinking about the consequences.

Second version

If you look at Dahl's dictionary, then the bodoon is a large-bred cattle, striving to cheer a person. Proceeding from this, it is possible to make the assumption that the synonym of the word "hangover" has gone from this metaphorical image. After all, a well-drunk person from the side resembles a bull or a buffalo. His head and body are lowered down, as if they are attracted to the ground by an invisible force, and his eyes, which are clouded with alcohol, look as if they saw before him a red rag.

It is because of this comparison that people say "with bodun", meaning that yesterday the person looked like a real beast. This theory is also confirmed by the fact that in Russian there is an expression: "came on horns", that is, "returned home drunk strongly."
