The history of the creation of the most compact amphibian

In 1949-1953, the former Soviet Union supplied weapons to Korean patriots. In the course of the talks, a shortage of all-terrain vehicles in the armament was revealed for the delivery of ammunition and transportation of the wounded.

The GAZ-69 vehicles used in the troops were too noticeable and often bombarded, they did not go well through the dug-out area: they often sat on bridges and got stuck. It was decided to develop a new light amphibious car with a high suspension and the possibility of landing from an airplane on a parachute.

In 1958, an ad hoc group of developers, led by B.M. Fiterman was created the first prototype, which was named NAMI-049. Gradually, the design was improved, new projects were created, and in 1961 a new machine appeared, called LuAZ-967.

Cars were produced at the Lutsk Automobile Plant.

LuAZ-967 (TPK amphibian) with the front edge conveyor was used and the army of the former GDR. To this day, some specimens can be found in the army of Ukraine. The car is widely used for moving cargo and delivering ammunition. In peaceful life, technology also found application.
