10 dishes that you should never order in a Thai restaurant

Chinese food is often considered oily, heavy and unhealthy, while Thai food seems to be an easier Asian alternative. In some cases this generalized statement is correct. After all, peanut sauce, which is served in Thai restaurants, is much healthier than stuffed with chemicals duck sauce. Yes, the aromatic tom-yam contains less sodium than salty egg soup or a wontone. And more bright and fresh seasonings, such as lemongrass and coriander, seem more useful. Thai cuisine in general is very tasty, varied and attractive. However, in the menu of local restaurants you can find not so useful dishes. If you have never tried Thai cuisine in your life, then you can become a victim of fatty, clogging dishes. Pay attention first of all to the presence of the word "pla" in the name of the dish. It means that the dish was deep-fried. And, of course, check out the list of dishes that you definitely should avoid if you go to Thailand.

Roasted Thai Rolls

Fried Thai rolls, containing a large amount of fat and unnecessary calories, clearly do not fit those who try to adhere to a healthy diet. Like spring rolls, which you can find on the menu of Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants, this fat deep-fried snack is not a good start for your dinner. Like other products deep-fried, Thai rolls contain saturated fats and trans fats, which increase the level of cholesterol in the blood, and also promote the development of cardiovascular diseases. If you want to try a healthier alternative, you can order fresh summer rolls, which consist of vegetables and seafood, encased in soft rice paper. These rolls are not fried, so you can enjoy fresh aromas of authentic Thai food, without feeling any remorse and not putting your heart at risk.

Dishes with coconut milk

Many Thai dishes are prepared using coconut milk, especially when it comes to curry. Since coconut milk is rich in saturated fatty acids, its consumption in food can lead to an increase in the level of cholesterol, so you need to use it in extremely small amounts. And given the fact that many of the main dishes of Thai cuisine become so creamy thanks to coconut milk, this will not be the best option for your dinner. Instead of fatty dishes based on coconut milk, you can order roasted local dishes. So you can enjoy all the variety of Thai cuisine, namely the combination of fresh ingredients and a variety of seasonings, instead of reducing everything to dairy curry.

Tom ka kai

As in the case of curry, a traditional Thai soup is made using coconut milk. And although it is a very tasty creamy soup with a rich aroma, it contains a very high content of saturated fats, which are there because of coconut milk, so this dish can not be called healthy. If you still want to try it, do not order a dish for one - better share it with a friend. So you can reduce the amount of fat consumed, and also leave more space in the stomach for other meals.

Thai green chicken curry

This traditional green curry is prepared using coconut milk, which makes this dish a bad choice for those who follow a diet. Moreover, the addition of fried chicken fills the dish with even more fats and calories. It's unlikely that you want to consume a daily calorie intake by eating one dish.

Ken ped kai

This red curry is another dish, based on coconut milk. Again, pieces of fried chicken are added here. Naturally, you will enjoy if you eat such a dish, but this sense of satisfaction will quickly pass. Later, it will be realized that you have just drunk four cups of coconut milk and ate chicken, which was mined in oil.

Fried rice

Thai fried rice is as bad for your health as its Chinese version. It contains a large amount of fats and calories, and this dish itself is attractive precisely because it is so fat. Considering how many other dishes you can try, you probably will not want to eat only rice. It's not worth it.

Gluey Keg

Gluey Keg is a dessert, which is a fried banana, usually sold on the streets of Thailand. This dish may sound tempting and seem healthy (it's the same fruit), in fact you should avoid it, because it is full of sugar, and it is also incredibly oily. These bananas are so sweet and sweet that you can hardly eat more than two pieces.

Pla Lard Prik

This traditional dish consists of fish fried whole and served to a table with sweet and sour sauce tamarind. And although this dish looks very unusual, this is far from the best choice for those who are trying to lead a healthy lifestyle. Oily fish in combination with sauce, the sugar content in which exceeds all standards, completely crosses out all the benefits that could be from using such a product.

Thai Ice Tea

Certainly, tea has serious health benefits, but this does not apply to Thai iced tea. This classic local drink is full of sugars, because it adds sweetened condensed milk and granulated sugar. Of course, you can drink this tea at your own peril and risk, but it's worth remembering that this drink will quench your thirst, but at the same time it will significantly raise the level of sugar in the blood.

Coconut ice cream

Ice cream is one of the most favorite desserts, but when you eat dinner in a Thai restaurant, you probably will not have a place for it in your stomach. Ice cream in Thailand is creamy-creamy and tempting, and if you only eat it, it will become an ideal meal. But after a full dinner you hardly want it. And do not eat it after dinner, because, like in the case of other dishes based on coconut milk, ice cream is not the most useful and healthy dish.
