When celebrates the name day Anton?

There is a belief that it is not worth mentioning the names of martyrs as if it were a bad sign. In fact, this is a superstition that is common among small church people. It's good, when the name day of Anton will celebrate on the day of memory of the martyr. Such a person did not bend under life's difficulties, went through all the trials and carried through the suffering of faith in God. The Holy One will always pray for someone who is called by his name.

The Monk Anthony the Great Was born around 251 in Egypt in a well-to-do family. When the boy was twenty years old, his parents died, leaving him a great inheritance and a little sister in care. Shortly thereafter, entering one of the temples, Antony heard a voice saying that he should hand out his entire fortune to the poor, because only in this way one can become perfect. To grow up the sister the young man has charged Christian virgins, and itself has got attached to one aged man to serve to God.

For a while Antony was really a novice. But soon he left the old man and retired to the cave first near his native village, and then further - on the banks of the Nile. Here Antony vowed vows. They were so difficult that the young man talked to people coming to him only through a narrow hole in the cave, continuing to make minute prayers and observing a strict fast. In voluntary imprisonment, Antony lived for twenty years, until God appeared to him. Soon he had his followers and disciples.

About 70 years of his life, Antony lived in confinement, which interrupted only for a short while. At this time he organized a monastic life for his novices, spoke at meetings in Alexandria, where he gathered whole crowds of people who expected miracles and warnings from him.

Anthony died in the 105th year of his life. Two of his disciples carried out the instructions of the elder and until his death did not open the secret place of his burial. Only after almost 200 years, the relics of Antony the Great were found in the Egyptian desert and transferred to Alexandria. Since 1491 they are based in the city of Arles, in the south-east of France.

Name day Anton celebrates on the day of the memory of St. Anthony the Great, which falls on January 30. The sayings and instructions of the saint have not lost their relevance today.

Antony of Caves. Memorial Days on July 23 and September 15

Antipas (Antony Cavesky of Kiev) was born in the Chernigov region (the exact date of his birth is unknown). He also went to Mount Athos ("Holy Mountain" in Eastern Greece) and lived there as a hermit. Here he took monastic vows. After the blessing, the hegumen went to Kiev to preach the Orthodox faith.

At home Antony settled in one of the caves on Berestova Hill. Later, his companion Hilarion dug and other caves in which the monks began to settle. To the words of Anthony, the prince of Kiev, Izyaslav Svyatoslavovich, listened. In 1062, at the monk's request, he gave the whole mountain for the construction of the monastery and the church.

Anthony of the Caves of Kiev died in 1073 on May 7 (20). Name day Anton also marks this day, as well as on July 23 and September 15, when it is customary to recall the saint. This is the memory of the Orthodox calendar.

Name days of Anton on August 22. The Martyr Anthony of Alexandria

Another martyr Antony was born and lived in Alexandria. The exact dates of his birth and death are unknown. Only information has survived that he believed in God and preached the Christian faith.

For refusing to renounce his convictions, Antony received martyrdom. At first, he was suspended on a tree, beaten with iron sticks and plowed with tools. Even after that, he remained faithful to God. The martyr was sentenced to be burnt. According to legend, Antony's body was not burnt in the fire and did not have traces of injuries.

Anton celebrates the Orthodox day on August 22. This day is considered the date of the memory of martyr Anthony of Alexandria.

The Martyr Antony of Vilna. Day of Death and Remembrance on April 27

A young man named Kumets with his older brother Served as a courtier at the Lithuanian prince Olgerd (reigns 1345-1377). Taking the wife of Vitebsk princess Maria Yaroslavna, the prince took Christianity and allowed her confessor, priest Nestor, to convert several of his subjects into the Orthodox faith. Among them were brothers. Kumets was baptized with the name of Antony, and his elder brother was John.

After the death of Princess Olgerd, under the pressure of the Gentiles, he renounced the Christian faith and forced his courtiers to do this. John and Antony refused this, for which they were imprisoned. A year after the elder brother promised the prince to renounce his faith, Olgerd released both of his courtiers. But Antony did not abandon God, for which he fell into prison again. Later John was also in captivity.

For the Orthodox faith and their beliefs, which contradicted the pagan belief of the prince and his entourage, the brothers accepted martyrdom. Early in the morning on April 14 (27), Antony was hanged on a high oak tree, and in 10 days - John. In the same year, another Christian, Eustathius, martyred. Together they are called the Vilnian martyrs.

Anton name day (Angel Day) is celebrated on the date of the saint's death - April 27.

At present, the relics of the martyrs are buried in the Holy Spirit Church in Vilnius (Lithuania).
