Tuning "Toyota Mark 2", specifications, reviews and prices

"Toyota Mark 2" - this is a fairly well-known car, which is a representative of the business class. It was published since 1968 and up to 2004. During this considerable time interval, the model underwent a lot of changes. But which ones - it is worth investigating.

The beginning of history

The car, known today as the "Toyota Mark 2", was originally planned as a project called the Toyota Corona Mark II. By the way, it was decided to add the figure to distinguish the car from other models built on the "Crown" platform. But in the 70's the car began to have an independent name. This happened after the division of the platform.

Already in the late seventies the car "Toyota Mark 2" became a full-fledged base for the creation of other new sedans. They became known as Cresta and Chaser. From their predecessor, they differed only in the changes that affected the exterior, as well as the design of the salon.

By the way, it's interesting that some cars were exported even with the left rudder. These were the same "Stamps", only now they are known in foreign markets have become like Cressida. And then there was another "Toyota" - called Avalon. That's it, and they began to actively supply the market of North America. Strictly speaking, it was designed specifically for this.

The 90s

The car "Toyota Mark 2" quickly became popular and in demand. But then came the nineties. This time was not easy for many countries. That's in Japan began to significantly reduce sales of cars, and this model did not become an exception. So Toyota decided to upgrade a number of its sedans. However, as a basis for the creation of new cars again took "Mark." And Toyota Verossa appeared , which became a successful replacement for the previous two models, which were Chaser and Cresta. Moreover, then the universal "Mark 2" began to appear in the light. The car was available in two versions - both with a full, and with a front-wheel drive. Known this car became known as Mark II Qualis.

Then already, when the seventh generation started, the modification of the Tourer V came out. There was a special engine under the hood of this car. "Toyota Mark 2" then boasted a turbocharged 2.5-liter 1JZ-GTE for 280 hp. However, it is worth returning to later, but for now - to pay attention to the most significant and famous versions of the model.

5th generation

Four years - from 1984 to 1998 - were cars that are representatives of the fifth generation of the model "Mark". In total, 8 versions were available to potential buyers. The weakest model was considered 2Y. Under its hood was a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder 70-horsepower engine. Following the power was 2L - 2.4 liters and 85 hp. He, unlike the previous one, was diesel.

There were also versions with a 6-cylinder 2-liter for 105 or 130 "horses." Equal to it - 100-strong, volume in 1.8 l. Next in power was a 2-liter 6-cylinder - it could produce 140 hp. (Model 1G-GEU). But the car 1G-GTEU used special popularity. Under his hood was installed 185-strong 2-liter 6-cylinder unit with a bi-turbo. These are all versions that were available to the Japanese and foreign markets. However, there was one more model, produced for buyers from the USA. It was known as 5M-GE. Its power was equal to 175 hp, and the volume of the 6-cylinder engine was the maximum - 2.8 liters.

6th generation

These cars were issued from 1988 to the very end of 1995. There were two different versions of the body - a hardtop and a sedan. And their difference was that the hardtops did not have frames at the doors. Plus the differences were seen in optics and in the radiator grille. From 1992 to 1995 in the light went exclusively sedans. And by the way, new engines have appeared. They were equipped with rear-wheel drive versions with automatic and mechanics.

Aggregates were many. The most powerful was the 6-cylinder 1JZ-GTE. Its volume was 2.5 liters, and the number of produced "horses" - 280. Plus, the unit had a turbocharger. The weakest were 2L and 2L-T. Both were diesel and the same volume (4 cylinders). The first of these produced 85 hp, and the second - 97 hp. The 2L-T was turbocharged.

There were also versions on 115, 135, 150, 170, 180 and 200 "horses". By the way, the last engine of the listed ones had the largest volume - three liters, to be more precise. It was known as 7M-GE.

7th generation

The cars produced in the period from 1992 to 1996 are among the most famous among all cars of the Toyota Mark 2 series. 90 body has become quite popular. There was both a full, and a rear drive. Versions with the front also existed. The car "Toyota Mark 2" (90 body) could boast of six different engines.

The weakest was known as the 2L-TE - 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder, diesel, producing (due to turbo-supercharging) 97 "horses". There was also an aggregate for 125, 135, 180 and 220 "horses", respectively.

It is worth noting that the most powerful option (ie 280-horsepower 1JZ-GTE) was installed only on the sport rear-wheel drive modification of the Tourer V (described earlier). Machines with all-wheel drive could boast only 1JZ-GE (220 hp). And this engine operated under the control of a 4-speed automatic. Interestingly, the car "Toyota Mark 2 (90)" became a kind of base, the basis for the production of other generations. And these engines turned into a fundamental one for the well-known JDM and drift culture.

The release of the late 90's - early 2000's

The eighth generation was published exactly four years. It was also quite a powerful car, which became another version of the "Toyota Mark 2". 100 body was especially in demand. The design of the model was decided to change radically. Remained unchanged except that the overall dimensions of the body and interior. The transmission and the chassis were also decided to remain the same. But everything else became different.

New engines also appeared. There remained a 97-strong "diesel", the rest of the units were petrol. The 1.8-liter 4S-FE with 130 "horses", the 140-hp 1G-FE volume of 2 liters, the brand-new 1G-FE (BEAMS), producing 160 hp. - all these motors were installed under the hood of new cars from Toyota. The most powerful engines were three - for 200, 220 and 280 "horses." Actually, they were the most popular and popular. It's no wonder why the technical tuning of the "Toyota Mark 2" was extremely rare - and so all the characteristics were normal.

It is interesting that since September 1996, in engines working on gasoline, began to use a special technology to change the phases of gas distribution. Needless to say, even on the 1G-FE engine, which is two liters in volume, the modernized cylinder head was used.

Technical advantages

"Toyota Mark" of the 2000s became much more technically advanced, unlike their predecessors. Two turbochargers were decided to replace one large CT15. Significantly improved the cooling system, torque has also increased. Fuel economy has become much more noticeable. Even the car accelerated became more dynamic. Also modern "Toyota" was offered with ventilated brake disks, with xenon headlights, an audiosystem, powerful dynamics in number of six pieces, a subwoofer and cast disks on 16 inches. And the basic equipment was different VSC and TRC. Climate control was offered as an option.

"Toyota" in the body of 100 has been particularly recognized by people. Owners say - this car is capable of falling in love with any person who appreciates the bright and sporty look of cars. Reviews, in fact, varied. Some believe that appearance could be made more conservative, while others like everything. Those who do not like something do the tuning. Some put a new body kit, grille, optics. Other people who are fans of extreme driving, put bipods to increase the turnout of the front wheels. They, as a rule, decide to improve the engine in order to improve the technical characteristics. And of course, stylize the car accordingly.

Tuning can be different. However, its price is not limited to a couple of tens of thousands of rubles. And it is important to give your car to real experts in this matter. Because tuning hands of an inexperienced person can simply spoil the car. And not cheap. "Mark" early 2000's in the normal state will cost about 300-500 thousand rubles.

Latest cars

The 9th generation became the final. It was also issued four years - from 2000 to 2004. The car ceased to look like a machine with a sporting-aggressive character. He became an ordinary sedan with frames in the doorway. From the sport remained only a suspension. From the changes - carried over to the back seat of the fuel tank, enlarged in the dimensions of the trunk, plus a complete rejection of diesel units. But there was a technology of fuel injection using high pressure. And the name changed. The top version of the Tourer V was named Grande iR-V. And there were 5-band machines. In 2002, the exterior of the car was also changed - new headlights, a radiator grille, a stylish bumper and new-shaped lights.

But in 2004 the release of these models ended. The car, known as Mark II, existed for a very long time, so its name went down in history with honor.
