A child of 5-6 years, according to physiologists, psychologists and educators, is just at the age when his memory, processes of thinking and perception are fully ready for comprehensive development. He really wants to learn, and physiologically the children's organism corresponds to the loads that are associated with developing learning. The senior preschool age is the most effective time to start actively learning not only the basics of reading, but also to move forward in this direction.

Goals and objectives

Like any program, reading in the older group of fiction is not a spontaneous or self-indulgent process. Its main goal is to develop a strong interest in the book. With it is connected one more, not less significant: the formation of skills of fluent, meaningful reading. The goal also defines the tasks:

  • Extended acquaintance with the best examples of fiction.
  • Intelligibility and a conscious approach to choosing books.
  • Interested, thoughtful reading. In the senior group of fiction for active reading, the widest choice is given. It is important that the child is aware of what exactly attracts him to this or that book, he knew how to analyze it.
  • Raising a critical approach to the process and the object of reading, the correct evaluation of the information that the preschooler draws from printed publications.
  • Reading in the senior group of fiction should not turn into a simple filling of free time, a means of boredom or idleness. One of the main tasks of the process is the education of the reader of a creative, feeling and understanding beauty of the word, able to distinguish a fake from a real work.
  • And finally, reading in the senior group of fiction pursues such serious, especially acute tasks now as love of the book, careful and careful treatment with it and active enrichment of the vocabulary of preschool children, teaching them a culture of speech, the ability to express their thoughts accurately, competently and beautifully .

What kind of skills should the reading of fiction form in pre-school children? The senior group is the last link before the transition of students to schooling. Therefore, they must have a fairly deep understanding of literary artistic genres, analyze the actions of characters, give them an assessment, retell the content of the whole work or its individual episodes, and build their speech in accordance with the rules of Russian stylistics.

Choice of works

Reading fairy tales in the senior group should not take the prevailing position. It is important for the educator to competently combine the works of different genres available in age: poetry, dramatic fragments, etc. If we talk about fairy tales as the main type of works, then not only Russians but also other nations of the world should be offered their children, as well as literary ones. For example:

  • Folk tales "Sivka-Burka", "Hare-braggart";
  • Stories about Carlson, works by the Brothers Grimm, S. Perro, some stories about Mowgli, Pushkin's tales;
  • Stories for the children of Tolstoy, Bianchi, Kassil;
  • Poems about nature, homeland, seasons, friendship, etc., memorized by heart.

Guided by the general provisions of the program, each educator can choose a list of works that will be studied by the children of the older group with pleasure.
