Screwdriver batteries: types and features

The word "accumulator" comes from the Latin "accumulo" - accumulate, collect. That is, this device is designed to store and conserve electricity. In the article, we will consider in more detail the types of these devices used for screwdrivers (domestic and professional). The most important parameter of this device is the capacity. It displays the amount of time that the battery is capable of providing the claimed amperage. The second most important parameter is voltage. Batteries for screwdrivers have a voltage from 9V to 18V.

There are the following types of these devices:

Nickel-cadmium batteries for screwdriver. Have a long service life (up to 1000 cycles of discharge / charge); Short time required for recharging; Well tolerate high / low temperatures and high charging current. The disadvantages include the high rate of self-discharge (if the battery has not been used for a long time, it will require recharging), the difficulty of recycling. Also, it is necessary to strictly observe the charging / discharging rules: if you charge the discharged battery for recharging, the crystals are formed on the plates, which reduce the capacity (the so-called "memory effect").

Nickel-metal hydride batteries for screwdriver. Advantages: service life - about 1500 cycles "charge / discharge", lack of "memory effect", increased capacity. The shortcomings include high costs, poor portability of low or high temperatures, and the fact that they do not tolerate a high discharge rate (prolonged operation at high power).

Lithium-ion batteries for screwdriver. Positive moments include: large capacity, lack of "memory effect" and self-discharge, short time required for charging. Disadvantages: you can not allow a full discharge of the battery (after several full discharges you may need a new battery); At long storage loses a part of capacity (buying the tool, pay attention to the date of manufacture, otherwise get a device that does not have the parameters that are stated); Poor reaction to low temperatures.

Because of the differences, all the batteries are conventionally divided into models for household screwdrivers and for professional. It is clear why: professional should provide longer work, while having a shorter time of charge. If you plan to work with power tools all the time, you should think about purchasing a second battery: while one is at work, the second is on charge. In this way, you can provide a decent amount of time for trouble-free operation. When choosing a battery, pay attention to the fact that some models of the instrument can work with several types of similar devices (information about this is available in the product passport).

The quality of performance and reliability of work are decisive indicators that must be taken into account when choosing. With equal technical characteristics, preference is given to more well-known brands, despite the fact that the price for them is higher. For example, the battery for the screwdriver Bosch is in good demand due to the reputation of the manufacturer. But this does not mean that the devices of other brands work worse, or are made less qualitatively. Another sales leader - the battery for the Hitachi screwdriver - is also in demand due to the "promotion" of the brand.
