Performance assessment in Windows 10 and faster system performance

Microsoft in the eighth version of its Windows operating system decided to remove the system performance assessment tool and a table that showed the scores received by individual components of the personal computer. In Windows 10, this index is also missing. However, the functional itself did not disappear anywhere. Moreover, the rating scale became more logical, changing its maximum value from eight to ten points. And in spite of the fact that there is no corresponding item in the system properties, the performance evaluation can be recognized both by the standard OS facilities and by using third-party applications.

Performance Evaluation in Windows 10

The release of the new operating system from Microsoft was waiting for many in fact, in addition to visual changes, a significant portion of the code was redesigned, which, according to the Redmondovs, led to an increase in the speed and responsiveness of the system. Complex technical solutions developed and implemented by the company's programmers had a good impact on the overall operability of the OS and as a means of verification, you can use the performance index of Windows 10, comparing it with those of previous versions of the operating system.

We learn about the performance evaluation using the command line

Assess the performance of the PC can be the regular means of the OS itself. To do this, you must execute a special command in the CMD shell. The command line must be running as administrator. To do this, click on the "Start" icon with the right mouse button and select the "Command line (administrator)" menu item. In the console window that appears, type winsat formal-restart clean and confirm with the Enter key, and then start the performance evaluation in Windows 10.

It is interesting that the execution of this command will lead to a complete erasure of the history of previous checks and the scoring will begin anew. If you execute the winsat formal command without an additional key, the previous data will be saved.

It is also important to know that when checking a mobile device, such as a laptop or tablet, you need to connect it to a power source, otherwise it will not be possible to start the diagnostics.

Evaluation of the system capabilities of the device will take several minutes, depending on its capacity, after which you can close the command window. The results of the scan are located in the Formal.Assessment.WinSAT.xml file located at: C: \ Windows \ Performance \ WinSAT \ DataStore, in the WinSPR section. The data in it are presented in the form of a table with the following values:

  • SystemScore shows an overall performance rating based on the minimum of the values presented below.
  • MemoryScore displays the result of the device's RAM test.
  • CpuScore - the evaluation received by the central processor.
  • RaphicScore sums up the test of the graphics subsystem when working with the interface, as well as video content.
  • GamingScore shows the result of the device's performance in demanding graphics applications and games.
  • DiskScore displays an estimate of the performance of the hard disk.

This method of testing the speed of the system does not require the installation of third-party software, and performance assessment in Windows 10 can be conducted in the absence of an Internet connection.

Determining the performance index using the Winaero WEI Tool

For those who do not want to mess around with the command line there is a special utility for counting and displaying the system performance rating - Winaero WEI Tool. In addition to being free, the program is also portable, which allows you to use it without having to install it. You only need to download it from the manufacturer's website, unpack the downloaded archive and run the executable file. The interface of the program resembles the one from Windows 7. When evaluating, the utility uses the data of the standard tool for checking the performance index of the operating system.

Increase system performance

Increase the performance of Windows 10 can be due to several factors. The main reason for this decrease is the use of obsolete or non-original device drivers. To update, you must go to Device Manager and select the "Update Hardware Configuration" menu item. Windows will try to find and install the most appropriate and current drivers. Also, the speed is affected by the number of "live tiles" displayed in the "Start" menu. It is recommended to unfasten all unused tiles from the initial screen using the corresponding context menu item of each of them. In the additional parameters of system performance, you should disable all or some visual effects, because they consume the resources of the video card and CPU. To increase the speed of the system, you can turn off notifications and OS prompts. To do this, you need to start the "Settings" application and in the "System" sub-item turn off the "Show Windows tips" checkbox. It is also important to support the system in safety and prevent the entry of all kinds of viruses into it.

Performance assessment in Windows 10 can be used as a tool for displaying the degree of responsiveness and performance of the device, its individual components and the operating system installed on it. And, despite the fact that the manufacturer has complicated access to this functionality, it is not difficult to use it.
