Morjim beach (India, Goa): photos and reviews of tourists

The Morjim beach is an Indian paradise. The sandy shore boasts a small number of people, beautiful nature and a rich number of animals and birds. And, in addition, Morjim became one of the first settlements where a large diaspora of immigrants from the CIS countries appeared, which, undoubtedly, affected the local culture. We suggest that you learn more about this wonderful place.

A bit about Morjim

Morjim is a small settlement. But the village became a resort because of its beach. The beach "Morjim" (Goa) is located in the north by the mouth of the Chapora River. It stretches for three kilometers and is completely covered with sand. From anywhere in the village to the beach you can walk fifteen minutes.

Relatively recently, Morjim was practically inaccessible to tourists. After all, the bridge connects the island with civilization. Before its construction, it was possible to get into a piece of paradise with the help of a ferry crossing. Although today Morjim, despite the large number of tourists, also remains crowded.

The southern part of the beach is called "Turtle Beach" (Turtle Beach). And all because of the fact that every year turtles crawl here to lay their eggs. Also there is a large number of sea birds. And still there lives a unique olive turtle Ridley.

The beach is separated from the main village by an alley with large trees. The size of the sand strip is almost 50 meters. And the depth of the sea increases gradually.

The climate of the area, where the beach "Morjim"

Goa (photo above) is not distinguished by a special climate from other tropical places. Therefore, in the village of Morjim from June to September, the rainy season lasts. The greatest amount of precipitation falls in June and July. Then their value begins to gradually decrease. Rains may not cease for several days in a row. But even so, the air temperature in this period is between 25 and 35 degrees Celsius. In the evening it drops to +20.

From October to May, relatively dry weather is established in Morjim. The amount of precipitation decreases almost to zero. The temperature is usually kept at 30-35 degrees Celsius. Even here it's rarely cool in the evening.

The water temperature practically all year round is 26-29 degrees Celsius. And some days the ocean warms up to +35 degrees.

What to do in one of the quietest places?

Despite the fact that Morjim is calm, you can have fun here. Local people are very fond of various holidays and entertainment. Therefore, on the beach and in the countryside, they celebrate not only national and local holidays, but even football matches. One of the highlights is the Holi Festival, which takes place in early March. Residents arrange dances, paint the skin with bright colors and organize battles of colored water - so they meet the spring. The Russian diaspora does not lag behind indigenous people. She often starts various parties and social events, at which guests are entertained by Moscow DJs.

Sports fans can do windsurfing, kitesurfing and paragliding. On the coast you can rent not only equipment and clothes, but also to find an instructor.

But the beach "Morjim" (photo above) is not only a place for outdoor activities. A large number of yoga centers and Ayurvedic salons of traditional Indian medicine are open here. And if you come to rest with children and want to have a little fun without them, then for children there is a Russian kindergarten.

In memory of the holiday you can buy at a low price jewelry, handicrafts and other souvenirs made by local people from wood, clay and metal. The blessing on the coast is a large number of souvenir shops. You can also buy clothes and home-made goods in Indian style at local stores.

A distinctive feature of Morjim is that there is no familiar night entertainment (for example, beach discos and nightclubs). All establishments (cafes and restaurants, shops and so on), located on the beach, work only in the daytime. This is the order of the local authorities related to the peculiarity of the life of turtles.

And from November to February, you can still admire the unique turtles that sail to the southern part of the beach for the extension of the genus. They are under the protection of the authorities, poaching is prohibited.

The local market can also be called a tourist attraction. And not only because of his honorary age, but also because of the special atmosphere. Here, a lot of local people sell crabs and lobsters caught by their own hands, shrimp and so on, grown tropical fruit, self-made jewelry and various items.

Food and drink

Some of these establishments are Bora-bora, Tchaikovsky, Lotus, Elki and Glavfish. In the latter they serve fish dishes. Also in these institutions quite often in the evenings they arrange a film show of Russian films.
