Products made of silver require periodic care, since over time this metal darkens, becomes covered with bloom and black spots. Especially often this happens with jewelry decorations that contact the skin, for example with silver chains. They very quickly oxidize and fade.
How to clean a silver chain at home?
If the product is not very contaminated, it is possible to use the materials available in the house for cleaning.
Try to apply a toothpaste on silver and rub it with a soft brush or even hands. After thoroughly wiping the product, wash it in large quantities of water.
For complex and small items there is a special recipe for what to clean silver. Chain, for example, because of its weaving, it is sometimes difficult to wipe off a dark plaque. Mix ammonia, toothpaste or powder in equal proportions, dilute with water. With this abrasive compound, carefully process the chain along the entire length. Rinse the product well after cleaning.
If radical purification is required, sodium hyposulfite, used in the development of photos, will do. In its solution, the silver is washed, wiping the blackened places with a soft cloth. After cleaning, rinse well with warm water.
Attention: all these methods are absolutely not suitable for jewelry with pearls. In general, you should be very careful in choosing what to clean the silver jewelry, if they have precious stones.
Is it possible to avoid darkening of silver
In order not to suffer from the question of how to clean the silver chain at home, try to prevent the effect that causes oxidation. Each time, going to do homework, take a shower or smeared with cream, remove ornaments. If, however, contact with moisture has occurred, wipe them dry with a soft cloth. Keep the silver jewelry you need separately from each other. In order not to darken the silverware, keep it wrapped in foil.
