"Disappeared": a review of the film and critics' reviews

The film industry does not often please not just good films, but films that make the viewer think. Such paintings are a rarity. These include the thriller "Disappeared", the reviews of which were unanimously positive.

The screen version of the book Gillian Flynn

The painting was shot based on the novel of the same name, but it was Gillian Flynn, who received great recognition.

Born into a family of people close to literature and art (the writer's mother was a teacher of literature in college and her father was a professor of film history), she decided to become a criminal reporter after graduation. Flynn entered the University of Kansas at the Faculty of English Language and Journalism. After two years in the magazine, she moved to Chicago, where she decided to continue her studies at the local university. Then it came to her understanding that she could not cope with the profession of a criminal journalist. And she again moves, this time to the city of her dreams - New York. Here for 10 years she worked in Entertainment Weekly as a television critic. It was a happy time for Flynn. She traveled a lot in the filming of famous films and made reports about them.

In 2006, Gillian Flynn publishes his first novel "Sharp Objects". He receives excellent ratings of critics and is nominated for several prestigious awards.

The most pleasant thing for the writer was the recognition of the genre of the thriller genre and the horrors of Stephen King. He highly appreciated the work of the young colleague and his mini-reviews are on her two books.

The success of the first novel was not accidental. The second book, "Dark Secrets", was also complacently received by readers. The third work Flynn - a social detective "Disappeared." The review of 2014 on this book, after its successful adaptation, was positive. Both readers and critics unanimously noted the master's work of the author. The writer succeeded in creating not only a deeply psychological work, she raised issues of family relations that were of interest to many readers.

Beginning of work on the film

In the summer of 2012, 20th Century Fox bought the rights to the third novel Flynn. She was invited to write a script for the film, and she gladly started working with the director.

The role of the protagonist, Nick Dunn, was immediately given to Ben Affleke. Reese Witherspoon planned to take down the role of his wife, Amy Elliott-Dann, but as a result she remained in the film as a producer. Also, the role of Amy was considered by Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron. In autumn 2013, it was officially announced that Ben Affleck's partner in the film will be English actress Rosamund Pike.

From "Fight Club" to "Disappeared" - a new work of a genius director

The name of David Fincher will always be associated with his brilliant creation, "Fight Club", based on the novel of no less than the great writer Chuck Palahniuk. It is completely pointless to compare these two pictures. The film "The Disappeared," whose critics' review was positive, still falls short of the level of Fincher's best work. This is an excellent shot, a quality thriller aimed at the general public, while the Fight Club is a gourmet movie. This does not mean that the new work is worse. On the contrary, this is an indicator of the skill of the director, who shoots a diverse film.

Experience in the genre of the thriller in Fincher's huge. "Seven", "Game", "Room of Fear", "Girl with a Dragon Tattoo," "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" - any of the director's films was a huge success for viewers and critics. After films of this level, the film "Disappeared" had big demands.

Fincher often in his works reflects on the fragility of family life. In this respect, the plot of the film "Vanished" became the ideal for him. The critic's review was mostly supportive. The painting touches the director's favorite topic - how to survive normal family relationships in the modern consumer world?

Is Nick a killer or a victim?

Ben Affleck as the husband of the missing second half is almost ideal. Both in the book and in the film there is always a mention of how good he is externally, and how simple in the soul. Charming guy with a great smile (by the way, Amy, his habit of smiling people turn into a weapon against himself), who married in great love and naively believed that he knew everything about the nature and life of his wife. How deeply he was mistaken ...

The role in the film "The Disappeared", the review on which for Affleck was extremely positive, did not become for the actor any milestone in his career. His game, as always, is flawless. Together with Pike they made a very impressive duet.

Amy is an unfortunate victim or criminal with perverted logic?

Rosamund Pike - the perfect hit in the image. A fragile blonde with troubled eyes could not but arouse a wave of sympathy with her own appearance. Who could have suspected this charming woman in the presence of the cold, perverted mind of the sociopath? So Nick, who lived with his beloved wife for five years under one roof, believed that he knew her well. As it turned out, even the parents of their adored Amy did not know what kind of monster lurks in the soul of their daughter.

If for Affleck participation in the picture - an ordinary event, then for Rosamund Pike this is undoubtedly a great success. The role of Amy in the movie "Disappeared," a review of which critics for the actress was the most flattering, allowed her to prove again that she can cope with a complex image. Many spectators called her game mind blowing. The best compliment for Pike can not be.

The plot of the picture

"Disappeared" - the film is far from simple. In the center of the plot - a young couple of journalists who were fired during the crisis and left the bustling New York City in a provincial town due to a serious illness of the mother Nick Dunn.

They have their own lovely family traditions - every year on the day of the wedding, Amy prepares for her husband a gift, which he must find with the help of hints. On the eve of the fifth anniversary, the woman disappears, and the evidence that the police find suggests that her disappearance is the work of Nick, who decided to get rid of his wife.

The film "Disappeared" - critics 'review and viewers' opinion

An interesting fact is that in Russia a new picture of Fincher was adopted better than at the director's homeland. She received more than 95% of positive reviews from professional television commentators, while in the world the film liked about 86% of critics.

Why did they praise the painting? Each Fincher film raises acute social problems. They are also in the "Vanished". The picture can become a platform for disputes on the topic of family, responsibility, loyalty and honesty. She mercilessly prepares for the audience American institution of marriage and convincingly proves how useless a modern man in the era of total depersonalization in the consumer society.

New screen versions of works by Gillian Flynn

The writer's books are so good that according to her second novel - "Dark Secrets" - in 2013 it was decided to make a film with the same name. The world premiere will be held in March 2015. Will he repeat the success of the picture "Disappeared", the review and reviews on which most were enthusiastic, will find out next spring. Did not remain without attention and the debut novel of the writer - "Sharp objects". It was decided to shoot the whole series.

Conclusion

Those who only think about creating a family, it is worth watching the movie "Disappeared". The review of most critics praises the director for the problem of the institution of modern marriage raised by him. And future married couples would be nice to see what family relations can lead to in which lies, deception and unwillingness to recognize the existence of the problem lead to catastrophic consequences.
