Brachicoma: growing from the seeds of overseas daisy

The most widespread plant such as brachychoma, growing of seeds which has been increasingly practiced in our country recently, has in Australia and New Zealand. Now we know more than fifty varieties of this flower, which belongs to the family of astroids. According to historical data, in Europe it appeared in the late seventeenth century. Two centuries later, the plant began to be mass cultivated in England and other European countries. Now there was a new round of increased interest in the colors of the brachycoma. Cultivation from seeds has become so popular in large part thanks to the beautifully blooming overseas daisies that appear on pretty bushes. Flowering of the plant is limited only by heat, so that at home it is perennial.

Domestic species of brachycoma

In Russia, two species of this plant are grown. The first of these is the Iberian brachicoma. Growing it allows you to get a small plant (about 40 cm), the flowering period which begins in the second half of June and ends with the first frost. Inflorescences in the form of baskets in it are very similar to small daisies. The leaves have a bright green color, and the flowers are white, violet-pink, blue or purple. All this looks in combination very harmoniously. The second variety of species of plants we meet is a multi-parted brachycoma. Cultivation of seeds of this flower can be made even in conditions of stony soils. In this regard, the species is still known as "mountain chamomile". Among its differences it should be noted a narrow, deeply dissected foliage. Flowers have similar colors to the previous one, however, they are slightly smaller in size.

Plant Cultivation

As practice shows, the best brachicoma from seeds grows in well-lit areas with weakly acidic, nutritious soils. Together with this and in the penumbra you can grow beautiful specimens. The flower does not need the addition of organic fertilizers. Seeding of plants in greenhouses or planting boxes is approximately tentatively in early April. Seeds are only slightly pressed into the ground. Then they are recommended to sprinkle a little with river sand, then cover with glass. When stored in a warm and dark place in two weeks, the first cobs will appear. Immediately after this they need to be moved to a bright place. The seedlings are transferred to seedlings after the appearance of several petals, where they are fed with mineral nitrogen fertilizers in about one week. When the frosts pass, the seedlings can be planted in the open soil to a permanent place, previously prischepiv young plants. Vegetation occurs very quickly, and soon on the site will appear lush bushes in the form of balls.

Care for a brachy mycosis

For an abundant color and rapid development of the plant requires periodic loosening of the soil and the timely removal of weeds. Brachicoma, grown from the seeds of which occurs on the site, requires abundant watering, however, only in droughty periods. Together with this, they are transferred by the plant quite stably. Collecting seeds for sowing in a year is not entirely advisable in cases with hybrids. In any case, it is recommended that seeds be purchased for planting, and not collected on their own.
