Black mold and the fight against it

In one black-black city, in a black-black house, in a black-black bath, there lived a black-black mold! Jokes off, if we talk about cleanliness, then even in a white-white bathroom this type of mold can appear. And it can be found in the kitchen under the sink, on the walls of the cellar, on the slopes of windows and even on the walls and corners of the living rooms. In addition to unpleasant sensations from a gloomy appearance, black mold can cause various allergic reactions in humans and domestic animals, its spores can settle in the lungs and on the skin.

What can cause fungi? Of course, favorable conditions caused by high humidity of the walls, moderately positive temperature and stagnant air in this room. The fight against mold can not begin without eliminating these root causes, since after a while it will again manifest itself in the same places.

Black mold in the bathroom appears because of the constant moisture that condenses on the walls, creating all the conditions for the reproduction of the fungus. Here it is worthwhile to think about the development of a quality ventilation system of the active type. A built-in ventilation fan will greatly increase the outflow of moist air, which will prevent excessive wetting of the walls. It will also help to replace materials for finishing the bathroom, on which the mold is most often formed. This can be a substandard grout in the intertwining seams, plaster, paint. On the construction market there is a rather large variety of mold resistant building materials.

Black mold on the walls of living rooms is often formed due to their freezing. Cold wall attracts moisture from the air, so in the cold season it constantly remains wet and various multicolored fungal outgrowths, including black mold, begin to appear on it. Here it is necessary to carry out measures for external insulation of the wall, additional plastering it from the inside, gluing with thick wallpaper using special glue and, if possible, moving the heating system battery to this wall. It is also worth thinking about additional ventilation of the room. For this, one of the walls can be pierced by an additional window or window.

Black mold in the corners and on the slopes of the windows appears for the same reasons as on the walls, that is, from the cold and insufficient ventilation the moisture condenses in these places. First of all, it is necessary to insulate the outer frame of the window. Also, you should think about replacing the curtains with thinner ones and less long ones, to improve the air circulation in the window opening. Very often the appearance of the fungus is preceded by the replacement of old wooden windows with cheap plastic "non-breathing" windows.

Only after carrying out these measures, it is necessary to begin the fight against black mold, which is conducted with the use of usual chlorine-containing detergents and brushes. After thorough washing, the habitats of the mold are treated with antifungal agents, re-plastered, primed, painted or wallpapered using adhesive and materials resistant to the fungus.

Since black mold appears due to excessive moisture, modern air dryers can be used . To prevent the spread of fungal spores, it is more often to carry out wet cleaning with the use of antifungal detergents, especially in places with high humidity: in the kitchen, in the bathroom, in the toilet.

During the application of preventive measures, do not forget about the periodic ventilation of the premises. The window opening for half an hour can save the appearance of black mold, without exerting additional effort and money, and a walk in the fresh air during airing will only strengthen the health of the inhabitants of this dwelling.
